What Is The Importance Of Insulating Your Dog’s House?
Doghouses in some regions need to be insulated to protect the dog from severe temperatures. Failure to insulated doghouse that is subjected to extremely low or high temperatures can put the dog’s health in jeopardy.
Dog owner should understand how their location dictates the importance of insulating your dog’s house. In areas where there are temperature extremes, insulation may not be enough to protect the dog. In some locations where temperatures are not extreme, the dog owner may still want to make sure the doghouse is properly insulated to improve the comfort of the dog.
A dog owner can purchase a premade, insulated doghouse. If the dog owner makes the doghouse, the dog owner can add insulation to the walls, roof, and the floor of the doghouse.
There different types of insulation that are commonly used for doghouses. Some doghouses may have insulation panels along the interior of the doghouse. Some insulated doghouses have Styrofoam sheets or polystyrene foam between the exterior and interior walls of the doghouse.
Many dogs can tolerate the winter and summer months outdoors if they have an insulated doghouse. During the cold winter months, an insulated doghouse can be much warmer inside by retaining the dog’s body heat. In summer, the insulation helps block some of the outdoor heat.
If the dog owner is buying insulated doghouse, the dog owner may want to question whether the doghouse has an insulated roof and floor, or if just the walls are insulated. The dog owner may want to ask what insulating material the doghouse contains and whether it requires any maintenance.
If a dog has not been kept outdoors, the dog may have difficulty adjusting to any temperature extremes. If a dog is to be kept outdoors at certain times, the dog should be kept outdoors for short periods of time from the time it is a puppy.
Some dog breeds are better suited for a living outdoors. Dog breeds with heavy coats that originate in areas with cold temperatures may have it easier time dealing with winter months, but extremely hot weather could be dangerous for them.
A doghouse that is insulated in to help the dog be comfortable in cold weather needs to be the proper size for the dog. A small dog in a doghouse that is too large will not have the benefit of the inside of the doghouse being sufficiently heated by their body heat.
At times, insulation is not enough to protect the dog. Doghouse accessories like heating pads and small air-conditioning units may be necessary.
Keeping a dog outdoors all the time can be detrimental to the dog for more reasons than extreme temperatures. Dogs require proper socialization or they can become aggressive.
