Puppy Shots and Vaccinations: 101
Getting a new puppy is a huge responsibility, and one of the most important factors will be taking great care of your puppy’s health. If you want him to grow up to become a strong and healthy dog, taking the right steps when he is little is crucial.
One of the things that your puppy’s health will depend on is his vaccinations. The first rounds of shots should be given between the fifth and eighth week of his life. At this point, his parental antibodies start weakening, so he will depend on his own immune system.
In other words, your pup depends on you to get him the right vaccinations, which, in turn, will help him to fight off potential sicknesses and diseases. With the right shots, that should not be a problem.
So taking your puppy to the vet at the right time for the shots means that you are doing your dog a big favor. After all, it would be terrible if your dog suffered from a disease that could easily have been prevented.
So, first you need to find out about all vaccinations your puppy might already have had. Simply ask the breeder or the pet shop, where you got the pup.
Next, you should go see a vet of your choice. Simply show him your pup’s record and ask him to please give your pup any missing vaccinations.
But one visit may not be enough. Talk to your vet about all other shots that will be needed to be administered in the future. Make a schedule and do not forget about them when the time comes.
One last time: Please, please, please make sure to stay on top off this. Vaccinations can safe your dog’s life and they should thus be taken quite seriously. And just picture for a second what it would feel like to lose your dog to some unproblematic disease, because his did not get his shots?
The guilt, the shame, the heartache… it would possibly be too much to bear, really? SO let’s not put ourselves in that position. Instead, let’s stay on top off those vaccinations and let’s make sure our pup lives a long and healthy life.
