Although everybody is very fond of their pets, they don’t like the way that their home always emits a smell of pet odors. One solution to this issue could be to keep your pets as outdoor pets and not allow them to enter the house. But if you’re something like me, you would certainly not banish your dog to a life of outdoor living. Therefore, this information will explore a few of the ways that you can extract pet odors from your home.

If you are a cat lover, you probably know how dreadful it is to walk into your house and get a whiff of the litter box. If you replace the cat litter more than once a week, it is possible to significantly decrease the smell. Additionally, you may add baking soda to your cat litter to keep odors away.

There’s a easy way to get rid of cat and dog smells from the carpeting in your home.First you will want to acquire a large spray bottle. Now load the container with water. At this point walk all over your carpets and begin wetting the carpet. Be careful to only moisten the carpet rather than soaking it. Then get baking soda and as uniformly as you can begin scattering the baking soda all over the moistened carpeting.

Next, you might want to use a carpet brush on your carpeting so the water and baking soda will cover it. A carpet brush is simply a brush designed to be utilized on carpeting. It actually more closely looks like a rake when compared to a common brush. Most carpeting and hardware stores carry this kind of brush.

Once your carpet is totally dry, you should vacuum the entire area.Although this strategy is very effective on typical pet odors, you will need to find another solution for urine smells. You’ll need to buy a solution specifically designed to remove pet urine odors.Be sure that the item contains enzymes. These pet enzymes more or less just get rid of the urine odor by breaking down the urine. You can use many of these methods on furniture too. However make sure you read the labels on the furniture to make sure these solutions will not damage the fabric. To wrap up this part about cleaning furniture, here’s one essential fact. If you are one of these folks who spend $5,000 for a sofa, you can probably just afford to throw that one away and acquire a new one. Or you might simply choose to hire a professional cleaner.

And if barking is a problem check out how you can use a citronella anti bark spray collar to train your dog.

Does your dog miss you too much when you’re away at work, shopping, visiting or whatever? It’s normal for them to miss you some, and it’s not uncommon for them to have some serious problems with being left alone. This can cause you both some distress.

This issue is known as separation anxiety and there are ways to effectively cope with it and make it easier for your dog to deal with those times when you must be away.

Signs of Separation Anxiety

If your dog is chewing, digging and scratching they are showing signs that they are trying to escape. While barking, pooping and peeing and excessive salivating are signs of fear and anxiety. These are the classic signs.

Causes of Separation Anxiety

Often this behavior started early and is often the result of improper training. Or it could be due to former mistreatment by another owner or even too much socializing and bonding. The good news is that you should be able to control it.

Treatment of Separation Anxiety

There are things that you can do to prevent separation anxiety. When you put your dog in his crate, don’t have a long, emotional good-bye. Simply, walk away. It is even a good idea to ignore your dog 5 minutes before you leave. If you draw attention to your departure, your dog will worry when the love and emotion is suddenly stopped.

Try and change your leaving routines somewhat. My dogs have caught on to the fact that when I put makeup on, it means I’m probably going somewhere so they hang around and keep an eye on me.

A few things that I’ve tried have been putting my makeup on earlier and hanging around them for a little while before I leave. Another going outside with my keys but not really going anywhere. Maybe take the garbage out or something. Because they always associate my keys with the car, they get excited because they think they’re going somewhere (which they usually are) and if they are left behind they get very upset. By getting them conditioned to my leaving with they keys and coming right back, they don’t become so anxious. You can even give them a small treat when you return so they associate your coming and going with good stuff.

Make sure they have lots to do when you’re gone. Leave his favorite toys and treats. The interactive dog treat dispensers are great for this as you can regulate how many he has and it keeps him busy trying to get at them. When your dog knows that he has access to treats, he won’t care so much that you’re gone. Also leave on the TV or radio when you’re gone. There are even special CDs you can get made especially for dogs, or you could record your own voice.

When you return home, don’t give your dog any emotion or attention when you let him out of his crate. This will reinforce that being outside of the crate is better than being inside the crate. Let him outside to eliminate immediately.

Like all forms of dog training, you have to have time and patience. In time the Separation Anxiety should lessen. If it doesn’t or if he becomes aggressive you should consult your vet who may prescribe a light mellowing out pill. I prefer a small dose of Melatonin which is a natural calming/sleeping aid for humans (check with your yet or pharmacist on the amount that should be given).

Just remember that your dog wants your love and attention, so pay attention to his behavior and use the above training methods to help overcome his problems.

All dogs, just like children, may be different but they all go through the same basic phases in life. One of the more difficult phases in both dogs and kids, might well be the potty training stage. It must be done and it will take some time. Potty training does not happen overnight. If you want any success at all with your puppy, You will to need to take him out often.

When you first get your puppy or new dog, you want to get in the habit of taking them outside as much as possible. This will help them learn that outside is where they go to the bathroom. Instead of just going inside, they will quickly realize where the appropriate place to go to the bathroom is.

Although we all wish our puppies could hold it for an eight hour period, the fact of the matter is they cannot. It is up to you to keep an eye on your puppy as all it takes is a few seconds for them to do their business. By watching any warning signs or hints that they may need to go outside, you will be able to stop them before they go.

It is important you do not vary their diet while potty training your dog. This will create a change in their system which will ultimately fluctuate their bathroom cycle. Maintaining a consistent diet will help them get used to the food they are eating allowing their stomach to properly digest the food.

Although every parent wants to give their little puppy treats for being cute, make sure you are only giving them treats for going into the crate. Too many treats will mess with their diet as well. For this reason, keep your treat-giving to a minimum.

Something that many people do not do is associate their dog with the words “go outside!” It is imperative you take your dog on walks to give them more exercise. Every time you are going to take them for a walk, you want to ask them if they want to go outside. In addition, learn to say this every time you let them out to go to the bathroom. This will help them realize it is time to go to the bathroom.

On the other hand, if they do have an “accident” inside, you should treat them to negative reinforcement. This can be done humanely by, not talking to them, pinching their ear a loud noise such as a clap, or my favorite, a water spray with a spritzer. They will in turn associate this negative behavior with their “accident”.

A true accident is no one’s fault but our own, if their diet was changed or were not let out in time, or were frightened by something, you can hardly blame the dog. Use your common sense, a few small, healthy treats and lots of love and you’ll have your puppy trained in no time.

If your dog’s behavior persists or get worse, you might want to call in the top guns. Check out other in-depth training practices that will teach you much more than the basics covered here.

Dogs are a lot like human beings. They love to interact with just about anyone. You would actually be quite amazed at the way they take to different animals, such as other dogs, or even reptilian creatures. Of course this isn’t the same for all dogs. You will find that some dogs are very hostile, even to their own species. It’s strange, but it is quite factual. Like people, all dogs are different.

If you are an animal lover, then you know the value of having several dogs, regardless of their species. This makes it very difficult to keep your house in order, and then you have the fact that your dogs will want to defend their territory. If you have ever seen a canine territorial conflict, then you know what a headache can be. We’ve all had the experience of walking the dog in the middle of the night, and watching a rival dog wander into the yard. Have you ever managed to make it back inside without the entire front of your body covered in wet grass?

In order for a puppy or dog to learn to be social, you must provide dog training for the dog. If you begin in their puppy hood, they will learn much faster what it is you expect from them and their behavior. The best time to teach your dog to distinguish between friend and foe is while they are young, since they learn more easily at this time. You should take advantage of this early learning period to get the best results from dog training the social puppy.

If you have decided to have just one dog, then in it’s young years you need to introduce it to other dogs. This way it will understand that not all dogs are enemies. It also needs to become used to being touched. This will make it friendlier around other people, and of course will keep it from biting every hand it happens to see.

While introducing your puppy to other dogs, keep a tight grip on the leash, until you are sure they are not going to fight. Sure, this is controlling, however, your puppy needs to learn between what is right, and what is not.

Puppies enjoy jumping, shoving and biting, it is part of their play; however, you can teach them not to do so. They will do this while playing with one another, just ensure they are not really hurting one another. It can be terribly annoying to try to watch television, while your puppy or dog is jumping on you continually, whether it is a lap dog or not.

You might find that your dog likes to bark. All dogs love to bark, it is quite natural, but it becomes a bit nerve racking if your dog is standing in the house barking at all times. You can try to distract them with a treat, or teach them to stop barking all the time. It might not work at first, and if that is the case you will need to keep trying. Perhaps you can teach them that you will provide them a treat, but only if they will stop barking. If you use this method then over time they will learn only to bark when absolutely necessary.

You can train a puppy to be quiet by placing them on their back and then yelling in their face. It may not look so nice to others; however, it is a working method of many professional dog trainers. You can use this method with rescue animals as well to teach them to be quiet.

Just remember to train your dog as early as possible. Trained properly he or she can be a worthy companion and friend for years to come. Keep this in mind next time you decide to raise a four legged companion.

Learn to select the correct Dog Bedding for your dog. Do not allow Puppy Potty Training become a prolonged or tedious experience.

It takes more than a few stacks of newspaper to house train a puppy. Patience, commitment, paying attention and consistency are needed.

A guide for training your puppy is listed below. Remember that accidents will happen even if you have a full grown dog.

Be patient and consistent when training your puppy as this training period can last a couple of weeks or more.

Develop a routine.

As with babies, puppies learn faster with normal schedules. This helps the puppy learn that there is a time for going to the bathroom, playing and eating.

Normally, a puppy is able to control their bladder one hour for every month of age. If your puppy is three months old, he can hold it for about three hours. Make sure to schedule the bathroom breaks accordingly or an accident will probably happen. A dog walker may need to be hired if you work outside of the home so your puppy will have his bathroom breaks.

Your puppy should be taken outside after or during playing, after he eats or drinks and as soon as he gets up. Find a spot outside that will be the designated bathroom area. Use a leash and take him to that area. Using phrases or words like go potty while he is using the bathroom will teach him that this means go to the bathroom.

Give your puppy praise and a reward for using the bathroom outside. This needs to be done before you come back inside.

To help regulate his bathroom schedule, a regular feeding schedule should be use too. Eating three to four times a day is normal for puppies. By feeding him at the same time each day potty training him will be easier as well.

Make it easier to get through the night by picking up his dishes about two hours before going to bed. If he does happen to wake up in the middle of the night, do not freak out. If you do he may think it is playtime. Do not play or turn on a bunch of lights. Take him outside and then go back to bed.

Supervise.

Keep an eye on your puppy when he is inside so he will not soil in the house.

Keep your puppy near you using a six foot leash if you are not playing with or training him. Some signs that he may need to use the bathroom include scratching at the door or barking, restlessness, circling or sniffing. If you see your puppy acting like that, take him outside immediately. After he uses the bathroom, reward him with praise or a treat.

Learn to select the right Dog Bedding for your dog. Do not let Puppy Potty Training become a time consuming or tedious affair.

Bringing a new puppy home is such an exciting event for everybody! The whole family gathers around and dotes on their cute and cuddly new companion. Then something happens. The new puppy goes and pees on the carpet. Suddenly you realize that training a puppy is the price you have to pay for having a puppy in your home.

Many people find toilet training a puppy to be a frustrating and maddening experience, but it needn’t be. If you educate yourself about dogs and their behavior, you can learn how to train your dog without causing either the puppy or yourself too much anxiety.

All animals, including ourselves, do what they do through a mixture of instinct and learned behavior. You may notice that your puppy will experience some anxiety before it relieves itself anywhere in the house. That is because dogs instinctively know that they don’t want to soil their own dens, but your new puppy has just come to a new home and doesn’t know where its “den” is.

On top of that, your new puppy can’t “hold it in” for very long. It knows something is about to happen and will run around the room, whimpering and sniffing until finally it can’t wait any longer. Punishing your puppy for this would not be appropriate, because it has done nothing wrong. Laughing it off would also be inappropriate, because it needs to be shown the right place to go or it may decide that it got it right the first time!

You absolutely should not press its nose into the poo, smack the dog and tell it that it has been naughty. You can, however, remove the waste matter and place it in where you do want the puppy to poopoo next time and show it where that is. Make sure that you clean the area where the puppy has made its “mistake” thoroughly, using the appropriate cleaner that will remove all traces of odor.

Constant vigilance may be required at first for quick success at toilet training. Look for the signs that the puppy needs to go and take it outside before it relieves itself. Then immediately offer it a reward. In this way, your puppy will learn two valuable lessons. It will learn positive reinforcement for good behavior and it will learn that you are the leader of the pack.

Teaching the puppy who is boss is as important as toilet training itself. Dogs are pack animals, which means that they either follow the pack or lead the pack. Your puppy must know from the beginning that it is living in your home and that you are the leader of the pack. You need not be a harsh leader. In fact, benevolent leadership is a far better way to lead.

Training a puppy from an early age is best for everyone. You will have a happy, well-adjusted pet and your life together will be satisfying for both of you.

Learn how to select the right Dog Bedding for your dog. Don’t let Puppy Potty Training become a time consuming or frustrating experience.

Getting a new puppy is very exciting. It doesn’t take long, however, to realize that a new puppy takes more patience than you may have thought. Potty training a puppy, including teaching him to go outside requires a lot of effort on your part.

If you are trying to potty train your puppy too soon, you’ll probably realize it. You will not have much luck until the puppy is around 2 months old. An important consideration in training your puppy is that you need to establish a routine that will help teach the puppy when it is time to go outside and potty.

Determine how often you think your puppy needs to go out. Establish a time range like every 30 minutes or every 45 minutes. Then stick to your schedule to train your puppy. As they grow older, the time between potty outings can grow farther apart. It’s also a good idea to take the dog out before a meal so that you are not interrupted for a potty break during your meal.

Establishing a training routine and sticking to it will help you train your puppy more quickly. It’s hard to accomplish without a schedule. The sooner you establish a training schedule with your puppy, the better you will feel about your puppy and the more at ease the puppy will become.

Some people feel that establishing a routine is just too excessive. The reality is that it is a fairly simple thing to do, and it will help get your puppy trained. It is the best way for your puppy to learn. Just like potty training a child, your puppy will need to see and complete the process a number of times before it actually “clicks” that going outside means time to potty.

Puppies that refuse to potty outside can be especially perplexing. Try to figure out why they refuse to go outside. Try taking them to a different place in the yard. With a little effort you will get your puppy potty trained and can move on to other puppy training adventures.

Dogs are actually really clean animals. They won’t soil close to where they eat, or where they sleep. The thing is, a house is a completely different story. Living in a house is unnatural for an animal whose instincts would be to roam wherever she wants to go, so you will have to help her learn where and when she can relieve herself.

It is essential that you form good toilet habits for your dog as early on as possible. Trying to break the habit of a dog is quite difficult and it can be very frustrating. You need to use guidance and encouragement to help the pet. Animal behaviorists have some helpful tips that you can use to help with the housebreaking of your pet.

Believe it or not, dogs are sanitary creatures. If a dog does soil accidentally in the wrong place, it is likely that it will be far from his dog dish, at least six to ten feet. This is true for the place where the dog sleeps as well. But, unless you find a good place for her to go and train her in that manner, the rest of your house is okay to them.

Training a fully grown dog is essentially the same as a puppy. You’ll need to take him outside every few hours and also 30 minutes after he eats. It is about repetition. Stay with the pet until she goes, and then praise her when she does. If she does not go, bring her back inside and try again in fifteen minutes. Watch her though. If the dog starts sniffing and circling take them out right away as this is a sign that she is about to go. Pay attention to her signs and take her out. Soon, she will relate to going outside to going to the bathroom.

It is important to know that all dogs learn at different rates. Some dogs personality will cause her to go one way or the other. But, if you take her outside at the right time, it will go smoother. A puppy of less than four months old will need to go out during the night. Older puppies can hold it that long. A dog that cries to be let out has an urgent need. Get up and take her out, she needs every chance to succeed that she can get. Positive reinforcement is necessary for success.

Your approach and how you treat your dog will greatly affect the learning ability. If you catch your dog going in the act, distract her with a clap or call her name. Take her outside calmly at that time and praise her for finishing outside. Clean up any accident that you find on the floor. If the dog approaches during this time, ignore her. Don’t talk to or punish her at this point. The worst thing that you can do is to yell at her or physically punish her. This will cause her to fear you and to not bond as well to you. She wont connect it to the accident at all. Ignoring her is the best course of action here.

Every so often the differentiation between training discipline and constraint is needlessly confused. Using verbal commands and non-verbal clues, with leashes or snacks, to solicit wanted behavior is training discipline. Using choke or ‘stop-barking’ collars, electronic fences or barriers and related devices is for constraint or prevention of unwanted behavior.

Control isn’t of necessity harmful. Dogs instinctively have the need for and gravitate to the continuity of a community in which someone is the ‘alpha wolf’ and in a dog and a human relationship the human has to take that job. To allow the dog to establish himself as the alpha dog means property destruction, potentially threatening conditions for other dogs and humans, human dissatisfaction and a maladjusted dog.

Choke collars were developed to lend a hand in securing restraint. Dogs, exactly like humans, can be very different from each other in make up. Some are by personality more assertive or perhaps slower to get the picture. For ones that don’t perform constructively to a regular leather or nylon collar, a metal correction collar can provide an additional hindrance to lurching ahead and jumping up types of behavior.

The imminent drawback is that, used inadequately – all too simple to do – correction collars can have the opposite result to what you expected and may even be unsafe. Choke collars fit only one way and when suitably fitted should make allowance for a one to three fingers opening between the neck and the collar. Three for bigger dogs, one for smaller. Generally speaking a collar two inches longer than the length around the neck will be adequate.

Used crudely, though, choke collars can pinch the skin – resulting in lesions that scratching will make worse. They can also by mistake pinch the trachea. A fast yank-and-release does no damage; however by its construction it does cause discomfort. But for dogs that try to defy the tether this technique can be difficult to be successful with. Ordinarily, it is not recommended, chiefly for smaller dogs.

Prong collars are less menacing than they look, but – in this trainer’s view – have almost no positive properties. The only positive aspect of the construction is their restricted diameter – they can only choke down so far. Nevertheless, an animal with such a determined predisposition to pull that prongs don’t give him a second thought requires more than a quick fix consisting of choking and poking. That type of critter needs dedicated attention and behavior modification management.

Halter collars, which envelop the neck and the muzzle, but don’t stop panting or prohibit drinking and eating can give further constraint. The drawback is they don’t inhibit biting if that’s an issue. If biting is not a problem an everyday tether and collar, or maybe a chest halter might be preferable.

For assistance with those dogs that carry on in barking long after the purpose of barking is gone, consider an electronic No-barking collar. Barking is an ordinary and natural response to possible menacing events and is also used to signal distress and gain attention when one becomes isolated from the communal pack. But, for reasons we don’t completely understand, some animals bark continuously or at the drop of a hat.

Electronic collars that deter barking come in two main varieties: Shock producing collars and noise producing collars. Noise collars create a brief, uncomfortable noise that acts as a diversion and helps to prevent unrelenting barking.

Shock collars initiate a minor but startling electric shock that can be repetitive and persistent during prolonged or obsessive barking sessions. Fair and balanced investigations of their effect draw mixed conclusions, on the other hand. As with prong collars, any dog who is a candidate for one would also profit from an attentive, professional trainer.

Now and then quick fixes are appealing and worthwhile… until they become replacements for more constructive (both to trainer and dog) long-term management. Making the effort to understand how to access your dog’s focused attention and cooperativeness without disproportionate reliance on control equipment is better. The usual effect is happier trainers and more well adjusted dogs.

Learn to select the right Dog Bedding for your dog. Do not let Puppy Potty Training become a time consuming or tedious affair.

The differences within the category of what we consider domesticated dogs is so extensive that it is better at times not to consider them all as the same species. Scientists do since dogs can interbreed. Since dog owners hold different objectives, it is often better to emphasize the differences rather than their similarities.

A Great Danes and a Jack Russell look act and think very differently. A Jack Russell is more hyperactive than a Great Dane. A Golden Retriever and a Collie are very different from one another. The Golden Retriever is more excitable, fun loving and friendly. A German Shepherd and a Chihuahua have absolutely nothing in common other than being a canine animal.

You will need to adapt your training technique to fit the breed of dog you intend to train, because of their differences. You will need to practice patience with all dogs while training them; however, some may need more than others will. Because, German Shepherds are very smart and take well to obedience commands they are generally easy to train. While a Jack Russell is intelligent as well, they are more willful and deserve a variation in their training.

Terriers are highly active, high-energy dogs, using distraction techniques come in quite useful with these dogs. They can spot movement in an instant and then go after any animal making the movement. It can be hard work to keep them focused; therefore, you need to keep their eyes on you. You can do this by using toys, treats or other items and then wiggling the item to ensure the eyes of the terrier stay on you.

Collies are very mellow and are trainable as well; however, they are very loyal and protective animals, which is a good thing. However, it can be a problem if your collie continually barks and tries to attack anyone they consider a threat to the family. This may be desirable at night for a watchdog; however, it can be very annoying each time someone passes your house on the sidewalk in daylight.

Under these circumstances, bark collars are sometimes required, however you should remove the collar after the sun goes down. Doing so helps the dog to associate discouragement of barking in daylight, while it should continue to function as a watchdog when you need it to do so.

Dalmatians are very strong and highly energetic they make great companions. For a dog like this to have to spend hours alone in, a small backyard with no one to play with can cause problems. You will need to take the time to help this dog use up its excess energy.

The only speed Dalmatians understand is full speed ahead. They do require a large area for running and playing. They require a master who can toss the ball far, far away and still be able to command them fully. They are loyal dogs that need a strong hand, since it takes a forceful master to be the alpha dog as far as a Dalmatian is concerned.

Adapting your training technique to fit different breeds Is essential. It is important to consider all the aspects of training dogs including their particular breed and their personal characteristics, especially when you consider that they are individuals much like humans are, and they deserve the best training you can give them.

Learn to select the right Dog Bedding for your dog. Don’t let Puppy Potty Training become a prolonged or tedious affair.
