So Where is The Food Then?

You would need to be living in outer Mongolia to not have seen all the articles about Commercial dog food. This information is what is turning dog owners to natural feeding.

It has become clear that Commercial dog food is actually toxic to our dogs and as a result of this kind of information many owners are truning to a natural diet.

It ‘s all very well deciding that you are going to go natural for your dogs good health but where do you source the food?

Most of the food can be sourced from a supermarket . Even better is to find a local butcher and then you can find out where the food is coming from .If you can afford to go organic then do it .

When preparing a natural diet here are some precautions you should take

1. Worm your dog every two months after the initial puppy worming.

2. Scald all bowls and utensils with boiling water after normal washing.

3. Clean the ground outside after bone eating and remove all shards of bone

4. make sure you keep the Raw food seperate from other food

5. Store the food in plastic containers while it is defrosting.

6. Supervise all bone meals until the puppy is eating them properly.

7. Wash your hands before and after preparing raw meats.

The dogs canine teeth are not used for grinding bone and so they do not get cleaned in the eating process. You will have to use a soft brush or cloth to clean them about once a week.

Large dogs try to eat Chicken wings whole in one lump. You can stop this by holding the food as they eat but perhaps it is better and easier to feed them the larger chicken frames.

When it comes to natural feeding read and research as much as possible. Go onto the Internet and do your own due diligence. I can guarantee you that what you will find will change the way you think about feeding your dog.

By feeding your dog naturally you will add years to his life.

Is A Terrier The Dog For You?

Terriers are a very loving and energetic breed that demand a great deal of attention from their family members. They love to make noise and most enjoy being a typical “lap dog.” Terrier training can be a bit difficult if you aren’t persistent, therefore you’ll need to be prepared to be firm and corrective with your terrier pup. If your interest is in breeding terriers, you should do plenty of research and speak to a vet to ensure that you are prepared for the responsibility. This article lists a few of the responsibilities you can expect when raising a terrier.

Understanding your dog’s needs is the first step to becoming a good pet owner. The behavior, as well as the grooming requirements of a terrier varies depending upon which type you get, as some may have more exercise requirements, thicker coats, etc. For instance, Yorkshire terrier training may be more difficult than other terriers as they are notoriously hard to housebreak. Doing a bit of research on the personality and physical requirements of different terrier breeds is the best way to help you decide which is right for you.

The type of food you feed your terrier is very important. If you’re able to, find out from the dog’s previous owner what type of food they were feeding him. If you can help it, try to keep the dog on the same brand of food, as this can prevent a possible upset stomach, diarrhea, etc. If you can’t find out what food the dog was previously eating, just do your bed to sort through various brands, taking care to read the nutrition label.

Owning a terrier is a large responsibility and when you get him as a puppy, you will need to make sure he gets all of the required vaccinations. The shots are to help protect your pet against certain dog health problems. The pet needs to have their check up throughout the year in order to be healthy and be the dog you want.

Caring for a terrier will be like any other dog, but they will be a bit more energetic and need play time. Playing with them everyday will help them grow on you and listen a lot better, resulting in a calm pet you need. There are many places in which you can obtain your terrier, including pet shops, breeders, and even the classified ads section of your newspaper. You can also do an Internet search, such as “Westie puppies for sale” which will display the sites of many breeders or rescue organizations in which you can contact.

3 Secrets to Dog Training

It seems that every week there’s a new and amazing dog training method being taught. It’s sometimes mind boggling to know where to begin. Over the years I have discovered what I believe are the Secrets to Dog Training, find out more about these in this brief article.

You might be surprised to learn that the underlying features of almost all dog training methods are the same. One thing that they all have in common is the effective use of positive reinforcement.

Secret number 1:

Start training your dog when it’s young! Puppies learn much faster than older dogs so make the most of this if you can. This is not to say that older dogs won’t learn new tricks, simply that they may need more time a perseverance to learn something new than a puppy. So, where possible – start the training while your puppy is young.

Secret Number 2:

When training your dog, be firm but fair. Try to get to a level where you can understand your dog. To do this you will need to be compassionate and loving towards your dog. Treat your dog with respect, have fun with it, and it will reward you 1000 times over.

Secret Number 3:

Prevention is better than correction. Where possible teach your dog to behave in the way you want it to. This sounds obvious but far to often this simple training method is forgotten. Many times, via teaching prevention, correction of bad behaviors can be avoided altogether.

The secrets to dog training are almost always the same. Every dog training guide I’ve ever read has held the same common core values. Give your dog a chance to learn, don’t expect immediate results, be persistent, and be consistent. That’s the best way to train a dog.

2 Effectual Methods To Housetrain Your New Puppy

Housetraining is regularly the number one main concern for the majority of families when they get a new puppy. Very few puppies will be housetrained as soon as you get them. There are two very successful methods you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use just one of them or you can even use them simultaneously.

The first routine may be the most demanding as you will need to be very watchful about staying with your puppy and noticing his conduct. Puppies will squat to urinate and defecate and you will need to watch attentively but as soon as you see your puppy changing stance you must scoop him up and take him outside to his designated spot. If you happen to miss the signs you must not reprimand your puppy because he does not yet know what is expected of him.

If you happen to miss the signs totally and you come across an disaster afterward, do not admonish him. Dogs can only connect to what is happening at this moment and he will not know why he is in trouble if you scold him after the fact. This will just serve to confound your puppy and that will cause you more troubles in the future.

The newspaper process is the second way of housetraining your puppy. Cover the whole floor where your puppy runs around. He will do his business on the paper and he will quickly learn that the paper is tolerable. You must then regularly eliminate more and more newspaper until there is only a small piece left. Then you will be able to take the newspaper outside to the selected spot. He will then start going there where the paper is.

Both of these methods can be very helpful. You may want to use the first method of attention during the day and the newspapers at night. If you are frequently busy with other things you may want to use the newspaper method more frequently.

Sometimes during housetraining, a puppy will go through a point where he seems to regress and fail to remember what he has learned. This is a exasperating occurrence but it is ordinary so do not rebuke him for it.

You can use his own natural dog behavior to get him back on track. A dog will not soil in his own space. Use a crate and make it comfortable for him. Let him slumber in his crate and when you let him out, right away take him to his selected spot. He will have to relieve himself immediately and he will quickly learn that this is the only appropriate spot to do his business.

Housetraining does not need to be thorny or frightening. Both of these methods can be quite successful and if you try them along with some patience you will be triumphant with your housetraining before you know it.

Pet Insurance – Looks To The Future

Buy pet insurance today and you are certain to sleep better tonight. We pet owners take our obligations to our furry friends seriously. We endeavor to provide a safe and comfortable home, as well as the very best food we can afford. In addition, we supply plenty of clean water, regular exercise, toys and accessories of the highest quality and regular visits and check-ups at the vet to ensure they stay in the best of health.

But what might be missing? A much needed trip to the vet. Yes, it is vital that as dog parents we provide regular visits to the vet to ensure our ‘best friend’ stay in the best of health. We make sure our child gets the best medical care and, since our dog is an extended family member, we want to make sure he or she is well taken care of too.

Now don’t think I have buried my head in the sand and have no idea the type of economy we are all facing. The recession has made it necessary for most families to cut back on many things we once considered must-have items. That may include some of the goodies we once purchased for our pets. The good news is however our pets really don’t need that much. As a matter of fact most of what it takes to keep a dog happy and healthy is free.

There are three primary things a pet needs and the first is plenty of attention and play, which cost you nothing. Healthy food is next on the list. Now it can be a bit more expensive, but careful shopping should help you find good deals on the best foods for your animal – that could even include organic food. The final expense

Veterinarian care has made great advances in medical practice over the past few decades. Many techniques that once were reserved for humans can now be safely and effectively performed on animals. The unfortunate side effect of these increased medical possibilities is that veterinary costs have spiraled in response to the need for more advanced equipment and diagnostic tools in order to perform these new techniques.

So, if your pet gets sick you can rest assured they will get the best medical care without it putting you in the poor house. Pet insurance will defray medical expenses should your pet need any life-saving techniques. By having pet insurance in your financial arsenals you can manage the costs of vet care with ease.

By purchasing pet insurance you can get rid of expensive medical bills. If your dog gets sick you will not hesitate to get it the medical attention it deserves because you know you are covered and your pet’s medical care costs are now easier to manage.

If you do not have pet insurance, take this first important step now before you find yourself in a bind. It is possible to have it all. Yes, you can have peace of mind knowing your pet has health insurance and that if something should happen you know you can meet all of your obligations.

Pet Insurance – Perfect For Today’s Dog Parent

Affordable pet insurance policies set the industry standard in preventive care pet insurance. These inexpensive policies are designed to encourage regular medical care which has been proven to keep pets healthy and eliminate medical problems before they become chronic health problems.

At times like these we cut back luxuries and it can be tempting to see our pet insurance as a luxury. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In times of economic pressure our insurance can give us peace of mind. Health insurance will cover your pets in case of sudden illness or accident.

Pet hospitals have a solid history in the pet care industry, with over 50 years of experience. One pet insurance company is affordable because they have enrolled more than two million pets in their unique health care system. There goal was to provide human-quality health care for pets because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

By comparing the various companies and their policies you will quickly discover who offers the most value for your money. Cheap price is not the only criteria you should be looking for. Many times disreputable companies will offer a cut rate price but when you check the fine print they have extensive exclusions and pay out limits that drastically reduce the value of your policy.

Also, keep in mind that pet’s age faster than humans. One year for a dog is about seven years in human life. Can you picture your 65 year old grandfather not having medical, dental or vision care for a decade? A preventive care health policy is critical.

Basically you want to find the company that offers the cheapest price for the greatest value of services. Affordable pet insurance does not need to be low value. Many highly reputable companies offer affordable insurance that will cover accident and illness and some routine care.

A full-service pet insurance plan should cover annual check ups, emergency visits and vaccinations. The purpose of a pet insurance policy is to give you peace of mind. If your pet were to become ill or have an accident, you know that you will not have a financial burden getting medical attention because you are covered.

If you want a preventive health care policy that is backed by experience and a proven tract record for excellent veterinary medicine then you will want to enroll your pets in the best pet insurance plan possible. Ensuring that your pets are covered in the event of accident makes good financial sense.

What’s the Answer – Should I Crate Train My Dog?

There is still some disagreement about whether or not crate training dogs is the right way to go. Crating a dog involves keeping them in a cage just slightly larger than themselves, usually a plastic or metal one for a time, either at night or during the day.

Those in favor of crate training argue that crating a dog gives is a safe, secure place where the dog can go when it wants to get away from noise or activity and be surrounded by the familiar. A sort of home within a home, proponents call it. These same people insist that crate training makes the process of housebreaking a dog easier, since animals are loathe to soil the place where they lay down and will naturally learn to wait until taken outside to take care of their needs.

One criticism leveled against crate training is that it is unnatural for a dog to spend any length of time in a confined space where it can’t engage in its natural habits of exploring and roaming. It prevents dogs from being as active as they naturally are and is an unpleasant experience for the animal, they argue.

Those on the negative side of the debate say that crate training can be counterproductive to housebreaking your pet, pointing out that puppies especially will be unable to hold themselves back from eliminating for as long as they may be in the cage and come to think of indoors as an acceptable place for this activity, which makes housebreaking the dog more difficult.

Both sides want only the best for their pets and the arguments made by both sides have merit. There has been some research into crate training, but there is no hard and fast answer, other than that if done with care and common sense crate training can be beneficial to some dogs and has no ill effect.

You’ll want to avoid keeping your dog in such a small place for an extended period of time. You shouldnt keep your pet in the crate for more than four hours at the most. A longer time than this is uncomfortable for your dog and is also an unreasonably long time to expect most dogs to resist nature’s call.

When crating your dog, you have to choose your crate very carefully to prevent accidental injury to your pet. Look closely at the cage and make sure that there are no places where your dog’s collar could become snagged and that it is free of sharp edges which could injure your pet. The cage should also be very sturdy ” the cage should not break under the strain of your dog shoving against the sides and most importantly of all, the cage should be heavy enough that your dog cannot tip it over.

One benefit that fans of crate training point out is that these animals deal better with travel, since they’ve become accustomed to confined spaces and have familiar smells to comfort them in their cage.

Another school of thought holds that pets should be left at home while their owners travel anyway. However, if it is necessary to travel with your pet, use a well built crate which prevents any foreign objects getting in, as well as falling out.

There’s not going to be an agreement on crate training in the near future; that much is certain. It’s best to decide for yourself. Try crating your dog for a couple of weeks, followed by leaving the door of the crate open and let your dog vote with their feet ” do they steer clear of the crate or do they choose it as a favored spot for their naps? Let your dog have a say and you’ll have a happier pet.

Without Pet Adoption Rescue The World Would Be A Sadder Place

The act of pet adoption rescue is a profound activity that tragically takes place in this country on a daily basis, much too often. All types of animals are abused, neglected or discarded as if the bonds that they have established with human beings are of no significance whatsoever.

The animal shelter where most abandoned street dwelling animals eventually end up will sadly put them to death because adoptee families are hard to find. In every town, city and state in these United States this tragedy continues to play out on a daily basis.

Pet rescue is such an overwhelming need because more pets are born each year in this country than there are loving homes to take care of them. If more dog and cat owners would spay and neuter their animals in a responsible way, there would many fewer unwanted animals leading to overpopulation.

The Humane Society along with countless unnamed tireless individuals, do their best to save as many pets as they can from euthanasia by finding homes for as many animals as possible. Many pet adoption agencies are staffed by volunteers who give up their precious time to make sure dogs, cats and other pet animals are treated with dignity.

Experts in the area of pet rescue do not recommend that people buy their next pet from a local pet store. Quite often these animal were bought from “puppy mill” settings where profit is the only consideration. At these puppy mills, squalid, atrocious and generally inhumane conditions exist for the cats, dogs and other animals.

Professionals in pet adoption rescue insist that buying pets from local pet stores simply reinforces the cycle of notorious mistreatment that exists in puppy mills. Alternatively, they suggest you can help end animal abuse by purchasing your next pet from your local SPCA or pet adoption center where there are many great pets in need of a home.

In an ideal world, all pets that are born would receive a loving, caring home. In reality, many pets are treated simply as a commodity and are abused and neglected by their breeders. It is really sad to see animals treated inhumanely because we, as a people, should honor the dignity of every living creature on this earth.

If you want to be part of the solution that reduces the need for pet adoption rescues in this country, first adopt a pet from a local pound or pet shelter. Next, make sure that your dog or cat is spayed or neutered so that there are no unwanted pregnancies. Finally, treat your pet with all the love you have so that it enjoys its short life here on this earth.

Does Your Dog Bark to Much?

One of the natural characteristics of dogs is that they bark. Short of speaking English, or whatever their owner’s native language may be, barking is the quintessential dog-speak. Barking is natural to every dog on the face of the earth. Dogs bark for a number of reasons. They may bark to alert their owners to an intruder. Sometimes they bark for the sheer pleasure of howling, responding to another canine across the street, or just to let you know dinner time is long past.

Usually, when your dog barks, he’s got good reason to do so. He barks to fulfill his dog duties, typically to your benefit. He may be an avid devotee of barking by virtue of his hopes in gaining your attention. Barking is also a dog’s way of marking his territory. In dog speak, several loud barks serve to inform the neighborhood that he’s on the job. Other dogs are warned off your territory and potential intruders are put on notice. Barking dog behaviors are subtle indicators of the ideal pet. While the barking dog behavior is natural and in fact, desirable, when, where and how do you draw the line between normal and the excessive?

The syndrome of barking dog behavior is one of the most difficult behaviors to manage. You want to get along with your neighbors and you don’t want your pet to be a nuisance. What constitutes too much barking?

Your definition may not match up with your next door neighbor’s definition. If you’re an apartment dweller, your trusty dog’s barking may annoy your neighbors to no end, even though he’s contributing to the safety of the neighborhood in general. The rural dog has far more latitude in manifesting his enthusiastic and dutiful barking dog behavior. He can bark to his heart’s content, letting every canine from here to next week know that he means business. The rural dog’s neighbors won’t regard this barking dog behavior as an anomaly. In a country setting, it’s considered the norm. On the other hand, if you’re living in a condo with your neighbors just a stone’s throw away, excessive barking dog behavior won’t fly.

In determining what’s excessive barking dog behavior, you need a good measure of common sense. Dogs love to bark and they are usually doing everyone a service. However, if you find that your dog is barking over every little thing, real or imagined, a professional dog trainer may be the answer.

Have you heard of the barkless dog? Now there’s a dilemma! This dog won’t bark on a bet! This dog will be silent, even as an intruder with ill intent breaks into your home. Your dog may be the most loyal of pets, but falls short when it comes to protection.

Curbing your barking dog behavior is not a straightforward question. Is it good or bad? Fido is exercising his natural instincts. Help him along and keep the peace.

Teacup Yorkie Training

To be a good trainer or handler of dogs you have to have enormous patience, but also that little spark of strong will that isn’t defeated too easily. If you don’t possess these qualifications, don’t fret too much.

In dog training I find one of the most troublesome things to persuade your dog to accept is that he may be caressed in the street by all. However, if you have a yorkie dog you know that this breed does not have this problem.

More and more owners have expressed their willingness to teach their own dogs to at least have their beloved pets learn obedience training the right way. Dogs who are owned by those who are unable or unknowledgeable of training methods can learn bad behaviors and create bad habits.

Smacking your dog is never necessary, and can create feelings of guilt. Most people train their dogs in the right spirit, realizing that to train their dog perhaps needs an almost super-human effort and a lasting patience.

My idea of training a dog is that all the dogs should learn properly exactly what I set out to teach them. Sometimes I fear that I will spend a long time sometimes on a particularly difficult dog, trusting that the other members of my family will forgive me for having to spend so much time on training my dog.

The fact shall always remain that with the exception of dogs which have some physical or mental abnormality, there is not one that cannot be made a good companion by the right training . That is if the owner can train themselves!

Yorkies can learn quickly. If your yorkie does not learn quickly, however, do not be discouraged. Always be patient and the learning will come.

Yorkies are highly trainable. They are listed as in the top 10 breeds of dogs for intelligence for training.
