Get The Knowledge You Have To Get With Puppy Food & Dry Dog Food

Many new pet owners may be asking themselves what the best puppy food & dry dog food they can get for their new pet. In some cases, even experienced pet owners may find themselves somewhat overwhelmed with the range of choices out there, especially if they have a pet with special dietary needs.

Some people may be tempted to feed their pet scraps from their own table. It is true that dogs frequently eat anything they are given and that they do seem to enjoy getting treats, but it is also very important to remember that a dog’s system is not built like a humans and that some types that humans enjoy can be very harmful to them. Chocolate, for example, and tomatoes can make dogs very sick or even kill them.

Many reputable pet chow companies spend a lot of money on dietary research which determines what is the best diet for your pet to keep it happy and healthy. It is very important to always feed your pet chow meant for dogs, but it is also important to stay away from some common mistakes pet owners might make.

Some companies, particularly those selling very cheap economy brands of dog chow, may fill their chow with ingredients that can be harmful. Synthetic additives or animal byproducts can harm the long term health of your pet even if the dog in question doesn’t seem ill the first few times that dog eats the chow. There is very little regulation that limits what can be put into pet chow, and some companies take advantage of that.

It is vital to be vigilant when buying chow for your pet companion, but the proper decision can’t be made by looking at the bag. The right way to make such a decision is to check what ingredients are listed on the side of the bag.

It is vital to check what goes into making the pet chow, which has to be listed on the package somewhere. A good kind of chow to look for is all organic or all natural type which uses as few additives as possible. Dogs, just like people, thrive best when their chow is naturally made.

Another good way to choose the proper chow for your pet is to simply ask your veterinarian. These qualified professionals will be able to best advise the pet owner what food is best for their pet. Some pets, just like some people, can be allergic to what they eat and may have special dietary needs. Finally, what a pet eats and how much depends heavily on how old they are, how big they are, and how healthy they are.

Also, the best way to select proper chow is to ask the dog’s veterinarian. What puppy food & dry dog food to choose and how much is determined by the pet’s size, age, and breed.

Regardless of whether you use dry dog food or moist versions, complete nutrition is important. Feed your puppy food that provides extra vitamins and minerals for his active growth and playful antics.

Come Learn The Gains With Whey Proteins 2011

Whey protein comes from the milk of cows. It is a component that is isolated during the process used when making cheese. It contains lactose, peptides, salt, fat and water. Peptides are an important protein particle and lactose is a sugar which can only be found in milk. When this all the water is removed a powder remains with a largely diminished fact and lactose base. Highly considered as a benefit to muscles before, during and after a workout, whey proteins 2011 have a reputation to uphold. Below are some of the ways to reap their rewards and why.

A study showed that athletes who performed a leg workout of squats and presses were much less sore two days after when they had ingested amino acids prior their exercises. Whey protein has been shown to do this in a number of other studies as well. When taken before a workout it can greatly reduce the damage done to the muscles worked.

Whey protein is a very good source of these amino acids. Less damage and greater muscle growth leads to a successful workout routine. Seeing a regimen paying off will spur the conductor to keep going which can be particularly troubling at the onset of a new program.

People can even take whey proteins during the workout thanks to a plethora of delivery methods. The product comes in water and milk based juice and shake forms as well as bars. It doesn’t take much time to chew or sip in between sets or exercises and even doing so while running or pedaling is a relatively simple endeavor.

The muscle recovery period takes place for hours and days after a workout, however the most important time is in the first hour after the the exercise. The muscles are depleted and used at this time and any nutrition given is taken and put to the best use. Giving the body a product like whey protein post-workout will help in speedier gains of strength and hasten recovery.

To stave off hunger and avoid over eating, small meals of beneficial nutritional value should be eaten. This allows the body to more efficiently use what is given to it and reduces the build up of fat due to unused calories. Eating smaller meals, or “grazing” helps control hunger.

Brands of the product are numerous and with the many different delivery vessels that we talked about before picking the right one may seem overwhelming. When doing so make sure that you take note of one important thing. The grams of protein that are delivered when used in the way the manufacturer suggests. Different products have different amounts of protein per scoop.

Whey proteins 2011 can be a helpful supplement to a good exercise routine, especially if trying to build muscle. A person can find lists of the best whey proteins 2011 with minimal effort and start choosing. It is always smart and safe to look and learn before putting anything into your body

Improving your fitness, particularly during arduous workout routines can be helped by taking BSN Syntha 6. This whey protein contains peptides and lactose.

The Collie Dog.

The Collie dog makes an excellent sporting dog and can be trained to do the work of the Pointer and the Setter, as well as that of the Water Spaniel and the Retriever. He can be trained to carry out the work of other breeds as well. It is smart at hunting, having an excellent nose, is a first-rate vermin-killer, and a most faithful guard dog and buddy.

Little is known with confidence of the source of the Collie, but his cunning and his outward looks would appear to indicate a relationship with the wild dog. Buffon was of point of view that he was the true dog of nature, the standard and model for the whole canine species.

He thought the Sheepdog superior in instinct and intelligence to all other breeds, and that, with a character which other breeds do not share. It is the only animal that is born completely trained for the assistance of man.

At the shows this kind of dog is almost always at the top of the class. He is thought to be the most tractable, and is certainly one of the most agile. The second most popular breed of this type is the smooth-coated variety, which is a hard-working, useful dog, well adapted for hill work and usually really fleet of foot.

He is not so amiable in temper as the black and white, and is slow to make friends. There is not a more graceful and physically beautiful dog to be seen than the show Collie of the current period. Bred from the old working dog, he is now almost a distinct breed.

The skull should be flat, moderately wide between the ears, and gradually tapering towards the eyes. There should just be a small depression at the bottom. The width of skull inevitably depends upon the combined length of skull and muzzle; and the whole must be measured in relationship with the size of the dog. The cheeks should not be full or outstanding.

The muzzle ought to be of a decent length, tapering to the nose, and must not show weakness. Whatever the colour of the dog, the nose must be black. The teeth should be of a decent size, sound and level; very slight unevenness is allowed.

The jaws should be clean-cut and powerful. The eyes are a very important feature, giving expression to the dog; they should be of medium size, set a little obliquely, of almond shape and brown colour except in the case of merles, when the eyes are often (one or both) blue and white or china; expressing high intelligence, with a bright, alert look when they are listening.

The ears should be and moderately wide at the base, located not too close together but on the top of the skull and not on the side of the head. When in repose they should be carried thrown back, but when on the alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, with tips somewhat drooping in the attitude of listening.

The neck should be muscular, powerful, of fair length, and somewhat arched. The body should be burly, with well sprung ribs, deep chest, fairly broad behind the shoulders, which should be sloped, loins very powerful..

The front legs must be straight and muscular, leaning neither in nor out at the elbows, with a fair amount of bone; the forearm somewhat plump, the pasterns showing flexibility without frailty. The hind-legs should be muscular at the thighs, clean and sinewy below the hocks, with well-bent stifles. The feet should be elliptical in shape, soles well padded, and the toes vaulted and close together.

Its general character is to be a lissom, active dog, his deep chest showing lung power, his neck strength, his sloping shoulders and well bent hocks representing speed, and his expression of high intelligence. He should be a fair length in the leg, giving him more of a racy than a plodding appearance.

In a few words, a Collie should show endurance, activity, and intelligence, with free and deliberate actions. In height dogs should be 22 ins. to 24 ins. at the shoulders, bitches 20 ins. to 22 ins. The weight for dogs is 45 to 65 lbs., bitches 40 to 55 lbs. The smooth collie only differs from the rough in its coat, which ought to be hard, thick and very smooth.

Boy Dog Names

Dog owners will explain that there is no given method for picking a good name for a new dog or puppy. Whether they need to come up with girl or boy dog names, they will normally choose a name that sounds cool or a name they like rather than putting some thought into what the name really means. Popular boy dog names have meanings, as do human names, so more often than not the meaning will not suit the dog it is given to. Here we give a guide to the top five boy dog names and what they really mean.

In general, one of the first things you have to do when you get a new dog or puppy is choose a dog name for him or her. For most dog owners, this actually takes little thought. They just choose a dog name at random and that is the name by which the unfortunate animal will be known forever. However, there is something you ought to think about when going through dog names in order to make sure that you choose a suitable one.

First of all, dogs can sense attitude and tone of voice better than we are able to. If you choose a dog name for comic value or after someone you don’t like, your dog will know by your tone of voice that something is not right. As a result, their attitudes may change towards you or they may refuse to respond to your commands. Dogs’ names should mean something but should not hinder their training, so you should really take the decision of the dog name carefully.

Despite dogs being very intelligent creatures, they can’t process the same amount of information that we can. As a result, dog names should never be more than two syllables long. If they are more than that, most dogs will not respond. Max, Sam, Becky, Lady, Molly and the like are excellent dog names because they are short and the syllables are easily heard. They respond to these dog names and that will improve your probability of training them successfully.

However, dogs’ names should help them form an identity of their own. Common names don’t really allow them to do that, so finding something simple but unusual can help their characters a great deal without damaging their ability to respond to a command.

Max: This is probably the most popular boy dog name and the meaning is probably the reason why many people pick it for their hound. It literally means “the most”. After all, every dog owner thinks that their dog is the ‘most’.

Jake: Jake is short for Jacob, which means “champion”. This is a suitable boy dog name, if your puppy takes over the whole house within a short time of getting inside it!

Buddy: Buddy is a variation of Budd, which means “messenger”. This boy dog name would be apt for a farm dog or one you might possibly train to retrieve the newspaper from the porch in the morning. It is a very popular boy dog name throughout the USA.

Bailey: The boy dog name Bailey is French and means “steward”. This is pretty apt if your dog is responsible and sensible, so it is probably suitable for a Labrador or collie puppy, for example!

Sam: Sam apparently means “an answer to prayers”. This is a good name for dogs that are obedient, easy to train and are very little work!

Very few people consult the meaning of names when choosing boy dog names, so instead of going with your first thought, it may be worth taking the time to choose a dog’s name that really suits your dog. It costs nothing to spend a little time in thought about your dog’s name.

Dangerous Canine Treats

Every dog likes to be given a tasty tidbit as a treat and every dog-owner likes to give them. But do you know whether the dog treats that you are giving are healthy or dangerous for your pet, because there are both sorts on the market. In fact, there are hundreds of types of dog treats of all sizes, shapes and colours.

No matter what you feed your dog, it is worth checking whether he has eaten it all and if not why not. There could be a number of reasons, but each dog owner ought to know how much their dog normally eats and what he particularly likes. Not eating normally is often a sign that your dog is ill or about to be ill. Some foodstuffs can cause this sign though as well.

Treats that are manufactured to scrub your dog’s teeth frequently come in the shape of a bone, not that that is relevant to the dog, He knows it is not a bone sure enough. But most dogs do like them. A difficult can occur if your dog has powerful jaws and tries to eat big chunks in one go.

These large, slightly soggy pieces can get wedged in the throat or intestines causing blockages. Often these blockages will dissolve away over a few hours, but if they are resulting in breathing worries or discomfort, you may have to take your dog to a vet.

Rawhide chews also come into this category although they come with concerns of their own too. Rawhide chews are useful for scraping plaque and tartar off your dog’s teeth that would otherwise lead to bacteria, bad teeth and bad breath, but they can also get lodged in the animal’s throat or intestines, so strive to buy treats that your dog cannot swallow but has to chew on.

Rawhide is an animal by-product, so it has to be preserved to prevent it going off. Attempt to find out what that preservative is and find out whether it is perilous or not. It has been reported that some countries have been using arsenic to conserve their chews, this is of course not a good idea and is one of the most dangerous dog treats.

Chocolate is lethal to dogs. Not many adults and very few children are aware of this, because you often see people giving their dog a square of chocolate. The reason these dogs do not die a terrible death is that most of the chocolate that we can buy these days does not contain much chocolate. It is chocolate-flavoured paste. Look on the list of ingredients on the wrapper of your next bar of chocolate to see what I am saying.

However, different countries have different laws concerning what can be known as chocolate. The European Union is fairly good, America not so good and Thailand is appalling. Usually, bakers’ chocolate is the most powerful, which makes a chocolate covered chocolate cake the most perilous for dogs – just the sort of thing they can take from the picnic blanket.

Sickness, uneven heartbeat, ‘craziness’, hyperactivity, a visit to the vets for a stomach pump or death are usually the result.

Dogs love bones and they are good for them too (which makes you wonder why so many dog chews are purchased). However, not all bones are healthy for dogs. Cats grind everything up small, which is why they can be safely given fish, chicken and turkey bones. But dogs tend to wolf items down, so never give these bones to your dog.

Fish bones are fine and sharp and can stick in the throat or gut as with humans needing surgery, but chicken and turkey bones splinter into these fine slithers too when crunched. Do not give them to a dog as a treat.

Vacationing With Your Dog In St Croix

Whether you would rather clear mountain air or the ozone-rich, salty air of the sea, you can find places to take your dog for a walk that are very pleasant, even when you are on holiday. If you are a nature lover and a dog lover, you could choose a vacation destination with nature and your dog in mind.

City-bound hotel holidays or long, driving holidays are not very enjoyable for your dog. If a dog is going to be at home all day, he would prefer be in his own home all day. Likewise, with driving. He might plead to go the mall with you in the car, but doing a coast to coast run in a hot fortnight in June, is not really what he is all about.

Therefore, if you are arranging a vacation that you think your pet would not really enjoy, why not do him and yourself a favour and leave him at home? Place him with a dog-loving family member or friend or board him in a kennels that you have researched well yourself.

There are literally hundreds of boarding kennels in operation in every state and often there are thousands. Most of them are good, some are outstanding and the owners of some could do with a stiff talking to. I put my dog in one once that I had not checked out well enough and went away for two weeks. When I got back four hours early, they were not ready me and my dog was dirty and forlorn.

I felt awfully guilty and my dog would not ‘speak’ to me for a week. Really! No eye contact, no tail wagging, would not always come when called, no joyous running about, just a hang dog appearance for seven days. She must have felt that I let her down badly, which of course I had, by not checking up on the kennels.

A tremendous place to take your dog is St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. The US Virgin Islands are literally part of the United States of America and you can go there without a passport, with your US dollars and with your dog.

Not every hotel permits animals just as in continental USA, but there are plenty that do. There are also package holidays that will take you and your dog from the airport to the island hotel and back again all for one price.

Of the four main islands in the US Virgin Islands, St. Croix is most likely the best option for going to with a pet dog, because it is less heavily populated than the other islands and is by far the largest.

The hotel or resort will almost certainly not provide feeding dishes, bedding and toys but they will certainly have a shop where you can buy such things. It is probably not worth bringing your own either unless you have a large suitcase and a generous weight allowance. Food for your dog will also be extensively available on the island, of course.

St Croix offers various types of landscape and lots of activities to take full advantage of them. There are gorgeous tropical beaches just right for swimming or playing in the shallows; there are the rolling plains of the old plantations, which are perfect for long walks and there are hills, mountains and rain forest to explore with your dog too.

Vegetarian Diets For Your Cat Or Dog

Vegetarians are fond of animals as well – they simply do not eat them. Or perhaps that is why they do not eat them. Whatever! There is a question that bothers some vegetarians that own pets, and it is: do I have to feed them meat or can I provide vegetarian diets for my cat and dog. It is well worth thinking about this dilemma before buying a usually carnivorous pet.

Domestic carnivores such as cats and dogs are omnivores, meaning that they will eat pretty much anything If a domestic animal goes ferule (wild) it will revert to its primitive kind, which means that it will hunt and forage.

Cats and dogs will eat grains and grasses but they prefer them semi-digested, which is why, after they make a kill, they usually tear the stomach open first and eat that and the internal organs. The meat comes last on the list.

You can see by looking at the pets’ teeth that they have fangs for killing and gripping (for ripping) and molars for grinding and crushing. The grinding and crushing refers to grains and bones.

This means that you may be able to sustain your pets on a vegetarian diet, |but it probably will not be simple. There has been a lot of investigation into the dietary needs of human beings and so someone on a diet, measures what he consumes against what his body needs and takes supplements to match the shortfall.

However do you know precisely what your pets’ requirements are and how you can supply them? If you do not, where will you find out? I am certain you can with quite a lot of study, yet do you have that level of commitment? And do you think that your pet would thank you for making it a vegetarian? It may even turn your pet into a rapacious killer to make up the deficit or fulfill its craving for meat.

Cats and dogs need a high percentage of protein, so do you think that you will be able to sneak enough nuts and tofu into its diet to supply enough? You might find your pets chasing every bird in your garden trying to catch some meat, instead of watching them lazily from under your seat.

All in all, a vegetarian diet is not a good idea for domestic animals such as cats and dogs, and if you have trouble opening the cans or giving it raw meat, maybe you could ask someone else in the family who is a little less delicate to feed the animals or you could feed them meat less frequently, say just if you take them to your friend’s or mother’s house, then you can let them do it for you.

The other approach is to get rabbits or gerbils and tropical fish. Cats are not useful animals as dogs are in the sense that a dog will deter burglars and if you are just thinking of pets as stress-reducers or a way of introducing your kids to the animal world, a rabbit will do that equally as well.

Why Dogs Can Be Scratching Themselves

It is heart-breaking for dog lovers who care about their pets to watch them scratching incessantly. Itchy skin can become such an annoyance that a dog will pull all its hair out of a patch and then still scratch its skin red raw. If this happens to your dog, then you know that something is radically wrong.

It could be a matter of canine dry skin, but this is quite unlikely, if your dog is on a healthy diet. No, nine times out of ten, it has to do with an infestation of fleas or, less commonly, ticks. Therefore if you see that your dog is constantly scratching a spot, check it. That spot will usually be on the dog’s back just in front of its tail – one of the favourite places for fleas to congregate.

So, the first thing to do is look for fleas and comb most of them out. This can best be carried out in the garden or you may get an infestation in your house as well, although if your dog has fleas this severely, then your house is probably already infested.

Once you are certain that the itchy skin issue has to do with fleas, you can get on and take care of your dog. Go to your vet’s or your pet shop (which is almost certainly cheaper) and get an insecticidal shampoo and flea powder for your dog and a permethrin based insecticide for your house. If they have a soothing canine skin cream, a small tube of that will come in handy too.

Leave the dog in the garden and get out the vacuum cleaner. Open the bag and give it a good squirt of permethrin or flea powder and zip it up. Vacuum clean your house from top to bottom in order to pick up fleas and any loose eggs.

Do not overlook the furniture and the curtains. When you have finished, spray the curtains, furniture and carpets with permethrin and put your own bedding on a boil wash.

Then take your dogs basket and blanket outside and close the door. Do not go back in for an hour at least. In the meantime, shake out the dog’s basket and blanket and sprinkle it with flea powder. Now you can turn your attention to your dog.

Give him a thorough bath in the insecticidal shampoo following the directions on the label. When he is dry, rub some skin cream or olive oil on to his red bald spot. It is better not to use human skin cream because it contains chemicals and your dog will lick it off, unless you put a ruff around its neck.

You might have to do all this twice in order to kill the new hatchlings, but some insecticides will eradicate the eggs as well. Once you have got your dog back to normal, groom and bathe him more often in the future and be watchful for fleas.

Another persistent source of annoyance to dogs is mosquitoes. Mosquitoes normally bite dogs on the snout and the undercarriage and they undergo the same problems from bites as we do, except they do not whine about it.

Do not use DEET or any chemical because the dog will lick it off and it is not to be taken internally. Instead, try a lemon based natural fragrance as mosquitoes hate the smell of citrus. Put a few dabs here and there every hour or two that the dog is outside after dark.

Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on many subjects, but is currently concerned with indoor mosquito repellent. If you would like to know more or check out some great offers, please go to our website at Mosquito Repellent For Dogs.

Parasites On Dogs

You really need to destroy heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs whenever it becomes apparent that your dog is infected by using the appropriate treatment on them. Many products have come onto the market to protect our dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites such as hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc.

Of the heart worms, fleas and other parasites, fleas can produce a hyper-sensitive reaction in the affected dog. Animals infested with fleas scratch their bodies very vigorously. Often the scratching is so bad that the skin becomes hyper-sensitive and dermatitis is the result in the scratched patches of skin.

The result is often that your dog can not lie down for long or sleep comfortably due to the constant bites by the fleas. So, the animal looks as if has some serious skin disease. If the your dog is not properly attended to for these flea bites, there will often be secondary bacterial invasions in these areas and there may even be a bad smell emanating from the animal’s affected skin.

You have to observe your pet closely in order prevent a serious outbreak of fleas. However, it is essential to avoid such a serious outbreak as they are extremely upsetting to your dog. Similarly, the skin of the animal needs to be checked regularly for the presence of ticks and lice. In order to do this effectively, you need to inspect the dog’s skin by separating the dog’s hairs. The easiest way to achieve this is by slowly back-combing or ruffling the animal’s hair.

Usually, if your dog is anaemic, and it is not he result of being plagued by too many fleas, you need to check for hookworm. Symptoms of hookworm are usually anaemia, loose stools and a pot belly. The dog’s owner may recognize these symptoms by themselves, however, speaking honestly, the dog ought to have a routine health examination at the vet’s, which involves both faecal and hematological tests.

There are many products available commercially, some of which are useful for solving all these conditions by a single dose. Drugs like ivermectin are highly efficacious and are available in injection, oral and solution forms. The latter should be applied directly on the dog’s skin. These drugs can lead to the prevention of these conditions too.

So, the best strategy to follow is to keep a sharp eye on your dog. This could most easily be carried out at bath time and when you are brushing him. You can use an anti-flea and anti-tick shampoo, which will keep these nuisances under control, if used regularly. Couple this with frequent grooming with a lice comb and the use of a flea collar should keep your pet tick, lice, and flea free.

Why Dogs Snore

We all know that it is not unusual for pet owners to allow their pets to sleep with them at night. In deed, one third of pet owners have at some point, allowed their pets to sleep on their beds. Dogs provide a companionship that can’t be given by any other breed of animal. However, this doesn’t mean to say that some people do not let their cats or another pets sleep with them too.

It is made easier too because dogs have a sleep pattern that is very similar to ours. Dogs often rely on their owners with complete trust, which makes them a bit more relaxed during the night. This explains why most dogs fall to sleep easily and later on, enter into deep sleeps where REM sleep activities can occur. In fact, once dogs enter this stage, the owner needs to call them several times before they can truly be woken up.

Certainly, many of us have witnessed a dog paddling during sleep and barking while asleep too. These dogs are said to be dreaming. Breathing patterns can also be observed among dogs while they are asleep. For instance, there are breeds which breathe heavily and there are breeds which breathe more lightly. The dogs that are heavy breathers are much more likely to snore than those which do not breathe quite so heavily.

Some people find that dogs that snore are quite a nuisance during the night, depending on the degree and frequency of the phenomenon. Like with humans, there are various considerations why dogs snore, although most have to do with the obstruction of the passage of air in the throat, which in turn is caused by the collapse of certain areas along the throat. It is the same problem as with human beings.

A snoring dog should be checked for various issues to determine which treatment can be best applied. Some dogs are especially prone to specific allergic reactions that cause constriction in the airway. It may also be that there is some excess tissue in the areas that are inhibiting proper breathing. It is best if a veterinarian checks on different factors through careful evaluation of the dog’s anatomical features and general physical symptoms.

Maybe, your dog is overweight. Like with humans, obese dogs are more likely to snore during the night. This is because they have more flesh surrounding their throats. Therefore, they have excess tissue that hangs around the throat which can potentially cause the obstructions. Once this problem is corrected, the risk of snoring will be decreased. This would not only be healthy for your dogs, you may actually enjoy nights of restful sleep too.

The facial features of the dog in general affect the amount of snoring too. For example, some dogs have squashed faces which narrows their nasal passages to a greater or lesser degree. The construction of their nasal passages also largely contributes to their difficulty in breathing. They are very much like humans with the flu, who are forced to breathe using only twenty-five percent of their nostril capacity. Dog breeds with shorter faces need to expend lots of effort to breathe properly. It takes them more effort to breathe and they are also more likely to snore loudly.

Minor surgery can give your dog great relief. Be sure though that, before any decision is made, you are well informed about the potential risks and consequences of surgery to stop a dog snoring. Most procedures are irreversible, so careful thought must be given to any operation you allow. In fact, it is best to accept the guidelines offered by your veterinary doctor.
