Call Of The Wild

Dogs will be dogs Dogs are very loving by nature. They have attachment towards all things whether they are materials or humans. So long as their personal space is secure they are very lovable. If you intrude into the space they will become aggressive. Resource guarding is technically protection of space which belongs to the dog. More than attacking the person, the dog is merely trying to safeguard a territory.

Attachment to things around the house Finding dogs chewing on old shoes and socks is something that anyone takes for granted. This is normal behavior for dogs. This behavior develops when the dogs are small, when they bury bones and seek to keep their things away from prying hands. Resource guarding develops over the years and sometimes makes dogs overtly aggressive. Man has the same tendency; resource guarding has made man what he is. He has evolved from being a hunter to a cultivator of land. Dogs will find something or the other to safe keep and thus foster that behavior.

Accepting the order Seeing a dog for what it is, and liking their attitude is not easy. They are by nature wild and like to go free. Only the strong will survive, and in their pack, the strongest will be the leader. Man has evolved almost along similar principles and the headman is given the pride of position in their habitat. The only difference is that in the case of the dogs, their instincts are reversed; their senses react more strongly and more instinctively than the humans. The order among dogs is one where the strongest sets the lead for the hunt. Man is more of the type who will accept an argument. His pecking order is thus a reasonable approach. But structurally, both the dogs and men have a similar social hierarchy existing. It is up to one to know where one is in the hierarchy.

Sense of belonging Since dogs only recognize supremacy in the show of strength, whenever the dog feels that he is slipping down the ranks he will try to do something which is a show of his power. In the world every animal exists because of the order to which it is assigned or it assigns itself. In the normal house there is a certain respect for each and every member of the house. The dogs are more attuned to this kind of order and will, react vigorously whenever they feel there is a shift in the balance of power.

Use of trainers The best trainers will have a very close relationship with the dogs. They will have a stepped kind of program which will help the dogs and provide them with the necessary exercise as well. Doing things a little a day is very necessary as only then will the dogs enjoy themselves. Use of incentives is effective for dogs which are very young or which are really friendly. Stricter measures like putting the dog in a corner for some time will work some times. If you are able to get under his resistance to obedience then you have found a way to correct things and bring them the way it should be. Bring them into the family circles and teach them the order in which the various members are. They may not understand it at first but gradually will begin to understand how the entire thing works.

Dog trainers are useful Training is important but remembers the dog itself is more important. They will become aggressive if you start off training the wrong way or use very harsh methods. Professional dog trainers will not mistakes that the novice makes. This is because they have the knowledge of how the various breeds react to certain situations. If you are knowledgeable about training then you may proceed with it. Other wise wait for someone who has some knowledge in the field to deal with the situation. Remember choosing the correct trainer is important as the training itself.

Dogs are mans best friend, but Dog Behavior can sometimes be mystifying and a challenge. The best place to understanding Dog Behavior can be found in our Secrets To Dog Training Updated program.

A Safe Guide To Clipping Your Dog

Very few people see clipping their dogs as an art. Instead, they tackle areas like scraggly hair on the feet to keep their pets from tracking in mud. They mostly ignore other areas. However, in an effort to get rid of undesirable hair growth, many dog owners forget that they can hurt their dogs.

When you decide to clip your dog’s fur, keep his breed in mind. If you clip a longer haired breed incorrectly, dust accumulates in the coat, causing skin problems. In addition, parasites like ticks and fleas can move and breed more freely if your dog’s coat isn’t card for or clipped correctly.

You also need to trip your dog’s toenails correctly to keep them from breaking accidentally and making walking painful. Longer nails will tend to twist sideways, and in serious cases even dig into the foot and cause injury. Dogs with overly long claws will often catch them on hard surfaces, splitting or breaking them.

Injuries are common during the process of clipping a dog’s nails – the inside of the nail may bleed when cut. Since the quick of the mail is the source of blood and the location of nerves, it’s what keeps the nail healthy and growing. This area is located well back in the nail, but if the nail’s been cut too short or splinters, the quick may be exposed. This sensitive area will then be quite painful.

You must always use the right clippers for your dog’s nails and hair – make sure they’re sharp and meant for animals. Human tools won’t work here. You can find quality tools at your local pet supply store.

If you live somewhere with a cold climate, avoid clipping your dog in winter unless you have to. The winter can put a lot of stress on your dog, particularly if your dog’s coat is not long enough to protect her from the snowy weather and chilly climate. Remember that humans aren’t the only ones to get frostbite.

In the summer, make sure you don’t clip your dog’s hair too short. If you do, you’ll be exposing his skin to the sun – a dog’s fur helps keep him cool in hot weather. Shortening the hair is okay, but don’t cut the hair so short the skin shows.

Don’t clip your dog when he or she is ill, since it can stress your pet even more. Clip only when needed to get rid of broken nails or dirty fur.

Walking your dog on concrete daily can help keep him or her healthy. This will help you wear down the nail on a gradual basis and will keep them even. That way, you and your dog don’t have to go through the clipping process.

To get the best results, you’ll want to talk to a professional groomer who knows how to correctly clip your dog.

How Can I Bathe My Dog? Here’s The Easy Way To Wash Your Dog!

Most people have one of two opinions about dog bathing. Some believe that dogs only need to be washed every year or so. Others believe that they should bathe their pets once a month.

Bathing is good for dogs, but it can cause problems if you do it too often.

Just like us, dogs naturally have oils in their fur and skin. Bathing your dog too often will cause drying of the skin, which means itching, scratching and possible sores and injuries. Remember that the natural oils have some benefits, since they provide protection from bacteria and other elements.

With care, you can make bathing entertaining for you and your pet. Just watch for a few things.

1. Ear protection is important for your dog in the bath. If the ear canal gets soap and water in it, an infection could occur. This could be temporary, but serious damage could also occur. Infections can cause harm to the ear drum, leading to possible deafness. Some signs that your dog could be suffering from an ear infection, he may shake his head often or develop a discharge from his ears.

To make sure that this doesn’t occur, all you need to do is use cotton balls to stop your dog’s ears. Never force these into the ear canal – just place them securely at the entrance of the ear, keeping water out. Once the bath is over, dry the ears to keep moisture out – a finger wrapped in a cloth works well. If you decide to use a cotton swab, make sure you don’t put it too deeply into the ear canal, since it could damage the ear drum.

2. Use a shampoo intended for dogs. These are made to protect your pet’s fur and skin. Soaps meant for people can be irritating and harsh. There’s also a chance your dog will be allergic to the perfumes in human products.

3. How often you bathe your dog should depend in part on what breed he is. Longer haired dogs need more washing than shorter haired breeds. If you have a hairy dog, like a spaniel, baths should be scheduled once every two months or so. Different breeds may go as long as six to eight months. If your dog spends lots of time outside, he’ll get dirty more quickly, so pay attention to this.

Start your dog off the right way when it comes to bathing – patience and compassion are extremely important. Scaring your dog will make the entire process more difficult. Dogs enjoy being wet, and may enjoy running into lakes and rivers or having water sprinkled on them.

If you can, set the bath up outside and encourage your dog to play in it. Distract your dog from water with toys. When the dog calms down, you can start the bath. A leash may help with this process.

Have everything ready first, including soaps towel, a bowl for pouring water, and brushes. Water coming out of the tap might be a little cold, so let water in the bath warm up a little.

If you teach your dog that bathing is fun and enjoyable, he’ll be excited about the prospect.

Smart Ways to Teach the Basics to Your Dog

Training your dog is very worthwhile for both you and your dog. Before you start training, there are some dog training basics that you need to know in order to make training easier and more pleasant for you as well as your dog.

Well firstly and this is very important, all dogs are basically pack animals, even though they are domesticated, they still retain this instinct. Pack animals respond to the leader of the pack. They are submissive to that leader. Therefore you must impress on your dog early on that you are the leader.

Some dogs show more aggression and dominance compared to other dogs who are more easy going. No matter what your dog’s personality is, it is important to that you be firm in your commands. Do not allow your dog to start controlling your actions, or he will think that he is the leader. You do not need to be physically abusive to your dog to do this. You can simply show your dog that you are the leader based on your actions.

You should set up a timetable each and every day for training. Your dog will anticipate what is happening and will respond. Respect can be gained by kindness but firmness and a dog can be trained even if he is a little older. Training is not just for puppies.

This is about the basics and it does not get much more basic than teaching your dog to sit. But it’s a good place to start because it will lead on to other commands from that position that you will want to teach.

When teaching your dog commands use the same word for each command, for instance if you start off with ‘sit’, don’t change it to ‘sit down’ after a few lessons. Positive reinforcement is necessary when your dog does as you command. He is looking to please you so don’t disappoint him, when he does something right always be sure to praise. Do not get angry and shout because you will confuse and scare him.

At first, try working on training every day. As your dog starts to learn more commands, you can take a day off here and there but training should always be a part of your relationship with your dog.

All of this will be worth it in time, I promise you. When you have a well behaved and obedient dog it is something to be proud of. I know that you will flush with pleasure when someone remarks ‘what a well behaved dog. Why can’t ours be like that’ They will never know the hours of effort put in to bring a dog up in the right way.

A Quick Look At Training Your Dog

Before starting dog training, it is best that you know your options well. These days you can find many types of dog training, in many different places. These trainings vary in price and each one them has something different to offer.

The first type of dog training is known as puppy preschool. This is a dog training course meant for puppies that are about 6 weeks to 5 months old. These puppy preschool classes generally last for no more than 6 to 8 weeks. In these training sessions, your puppy is essentially taught how to socialze with people and as well as other puppies. Here your puppy also begins to learn how to sit down, stay at a place, and how to come.

The second type of dog training course is meant for the dogs that are at least 5 months old. This type of dog training is known as the basic dog training. The duration of these classes is usually about 8 to 10 weeks. This is the basic course, where your dog is taught the art of walking properly on a leaash, sitting, staying, coming and heeling.

The third type of dog training course is known as the intermediate dog training. This dog training aims at teaching the dog mostly the same things that are taught in the basic training course, in a more detailed form. Here the dog is trained to stay for a longer span of time, and is also taught to follow the orders given by other people.

The intermediate dog training generally lasts for about 8 to 10 weeks, and is meant for those that are no less than 5 months old. It is essential for the dog to have completed its basic dog training course, or to be accustomed to the basic commands that could have been taught by the owner.

The next type of training course is known as the advanced dog training course. Here, once again, the course is quite similar to its previous one, i.e., the intermediate dog training course, except for the fact that this time it is more detailed. Here, the dog is taught how to sit even without you in the view.

This training course is about 8 to 10 weeks long, and is meant for those that have completed their intermediate training. Here, they are also trained to walk beside their owners without a leash. Moreover, it gradually prepares the dog to take the Canine Good Citizen training course. The Canine Good Citizen training for dogs is the last course. To pass this course, your dog will be taught the 10 necessary aspects.

This course is strictly meant for those dogs that have completed all the previous courses. The test is quite tough and can only be passed if the dog is really well behaved. Depending on wheter your dog can pass, the course can last for several weeks.

Keeping this information in mind, you should be able to decide the dog training course best suited for your dog. However, you may seek the opinion of your local dog trainers to know more. Many trainers consult for free. So now you should be at least a step closer to introducing your dog into a training course!
