Let me ask you a question? Ever pondered how brand name manufactures actually make our dog food? We all know how persuasive and well pitched the TV adverts & packaging are, showing fresh pieces of meat and vegetables. The industry is a multi million pound market place and these companies will do anything hide the truth about what actually goes into making the food. We all heavily rely on rating from associated bodies or advert but just how accurate are theses!?

The reality is that the pet food industry is an extension of the human food and agriculture industries. Pet food provides slaughterhouses and manufacturers with a convenient way to turn waste products into profit. This waste includes grains that are considered unfit for human consumption. Slaughterhouse waste includes parts like intestines, udders, heads, hooves, and possibly diseased and cancerous animal parts.

Dry Dog Food is made from a machine that mixes the materials used in accordance with a recipe created by a computer to provide adequate food established by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officers). The mixture is heated and turned into pulp, then cut into pieces. As a paste when normal atmospheric pressure, it expands or “puffs” in its final form. The food is then allowed to dry. Then it is sprayed with grease or other substances to make it more attractive. When it has cooled, it can be bagged. Although cooking kills the bacteria in the ingredients, the food can still pick up the bacteria during drying and the coating process. Some experts say that some dry dog food will allow the wet surface bacteria to multiply and make pets sick. They warn not to mix dry food with water, canned food or other liquids.

The best brands of dog food – such as super-premium varieties, natural and organic – do not use the products. List of their meat labels such as Turkey or lamb as the first ingredients. But this meat is still mostly remaining pieces. If the bones of poultry are permitted. The “chicken” mentioned in some dog food labels are in fact the back and frameworks, spine and ribs, less expensive breast meat. Many of these meat products even used fresh, they are done. Rendering is a process involving the extraction of oil from fat, grease, etc., by melting. In other words, the raw materials are dumped into large vats and boiled for several hours. Rendering separates fat, removes water and kills bacteria, viruses, parasites and other organisms. But these high temperatures may also alter or destroy natural enzymes and proteins found in raw ingredients.

When the food the dog is tied, it’s no wonder that dog lovers decide to give their pet the best nutrition possible to create healthy meals for them. Our dogs need proper nutrients in order to live long and healthy life, and do not get the dog food. If you want your dog to live freely in a common health problems associated with modern dogs are fed the wrong food all day, then giving your dog a natural diet is the right choice.

The food of man is not always safe for dogs (or other animal for that matter) to eat. In fact, some foods are downright fatal if the dog eats them, including chocolate or onions. Some foods, like fish, become toxic when ingested in large quantities. If you are unsure of what foods to feed your dog, this can result in damage to major organs. However, it does not take much time to repair the damage to the kidneys, giving the dog treats common, but surprising. Therefore, it is a good idea to know what foods are perceived as safe and which are fatal before feeding your canine friend. If you decide to make your own dog food is a good idea to know what foods are dangerous to your dog. Most people know not to feed a sweet dog Hershey. However, these same people do not know that macadamia nuts or raisins for a few are deadly. If you have these foods in your home, remember to keep out of reach of your dog.

Avocados

Persin is in the leaves, bark, seeds, and fruit of the avocado plant. It’s a fungicidal toxin that’s harmless to humans but causes vomiting and diarrhea in pets. Anyone claiming persin is absent from avocado fruit is mistaken and outdated. Studies have even shown the potential for avocado in fighting breast cancer purely because of its high persin content.

Grapes (and Raisins)

Minute amounts of grapes can be harmful to a dog so keep this in mind when you make your own dog food. A toxic amount if 32 grams for each kilogram your dog weighs. Acute renal failure can occur in just three kilograms of grapes. Symptoms of an impending problem tend to take place in several hours after ingestion and often include both diarrhea and vomiting. It’s important that your pet is seen by a vet in no more than two hours so that an emetic is given to induce the dog’s vomiting. If that timeframe is not possible, the dog should be seen within two days to start getting both activated charcoal absorption and intravenous fluid therapy treatments.

Mushrooms

When you’re trying to come up with ingredients to make your own dog food, avoid using mushrooms. Mushrooms are a potential health hazard to your canine friend and when ingested, whether it’s something you’ve bought from the store or your dog consumed while out in the market, will produce the following poisoning symptoms: Coordination loss Drooling Stomach upset

Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts are highly toxic in dogs. 7 grams of them will kill a 10kg dog in about a day. Your pet will start to exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, pale mucous membranes, and hyperthermia after 3-6 hours. This will progress into paresis of the hind limbs, joint stiffness, abdominal pain, and eventually death if left untreated. You should immediately induce vomiting. Afterwards take your dog to the vet to have activated charcoal administered, and have a gastric lavage performed. If the case is severe, the vet will hook your dog to an IV (to prevent dehydration) and keep it for monitoring.

Onions

Onions are very toxic to dogs. No matter if they are cooked, raw or dried. Do not panic if your Great Dane eats a piece of onion kitchen floor. The size of the dog and the amount of onions consumed is the major determinant of gravity. Dr. Wendy Wallner, DVM states that “The Onion toxicity causes a Heinz body anemia. While many red blood cells are made and broken, can cause anemia.” This usually occurs several days after ingestion. If your dog eats half an onion or more, or if you are not positive of the amount consumed, you should go to the vet immediately to be sure.

Contrary to public belief, its only been in recent years that dog owners have realized that their beloved friends can survive on good old homemade dog food. Of course these large manufacturers want us to believe this as dog food is a multi million pound/dollar industry but the secret of homemade recipes is out!! Left over scraps and foods from our cupboards and fridges can offer just as much nutrition as many high quality dry foods! Dogs have been surviving on scraps for hundreds of years so their digestive systems are use to it.

Many conscientious dog owners become concerned about the dangers of preservatives and additives in canned dog food and dry “kibble”. Most people would never think to feed their families, canned or processed fast food at every meal, every day, every week of their lives. So why do our dogs? Some veterinarians also began to give many modern diseases animal nutrition they receive from highly processed dog food packaging. Certainly there are a couple of feed companies do not provide good quality food for your pet, but unfortunately, most manufacturers are content with the dishing out poor, low-quality meals that contain things You do not get food.

No animals on earth eat a natural diet of cooked foods. That is why many use at home dog food raw food. They are licensed veterinarian and ask human quality foods. In addition, many dog food recipes are easy to follow and prepare. Dogs, like us, love the variety – which is why we are happy to homemade dog food. Natural homemade recipes dog food should contain some fat and oil, and should be low in sugar. Whenever possible, replace sugar in a recipe will become a little honey or molasses instead.

In addition to the benefits of feeding your dog a diet that is full of nutrients such as protein, you also get to know exactly what you are feeding your pet. Did you know that the pet food companies can change up to fifteen percent of their pet food recipes without having to change the ingredient labels on their bags? Many times the ingredient panel of a dog food bag has four to five different forms of one type of grain listed. This may sound harmless to you, but it really isn’t. If pet food companies had to list their ingredients as corn or wheat instead of listing them individually as corn grits, whole corn, corn middlings, corn bran, or corn gluten meal, the different forms of corn ingredients added together might be a higher percentage than the meat ingredients. While this is legally allowed, there are many people who contest that the practice is misleading for consumers.

So, when you discover that giving your dog a healthy meal and home-made is actually easier for you and better for them, you can start experimenting with recipes dog food you are trying to do. After all, if you leave out processed foods, such as dog food for your baby because you’re forcing your dog to live with them?

Food allergies account for about ten percent of all the allergies seen in dogs. They also generally account for twenty percent of the causes of itching and scratching in dogs. Just how a pet becomes sensitized to a particular agent in the food, which in turn creates a complicated antibody response in the dog’s intestinal tract, is not very well understood.

Although there is very little understanding of food allergies and the canines, we have developed methods to determine the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of allergies. They may be present in a dog 5 months or later, although most cases occur when the animal is 2 to 6 years. Dog food allergies can be given to help men and women, young.

The symptoms of food allergies are similar to those of most allergies seen in dogs. The primary symptom is itchy skin that mostly affects the face, feet, ears, forelegs, armpits, and the area around the anus. Symptoms could also include chronic or recurrent ear infections, hair loss, hot spots, and skin infections that respond to antibiotics but reoccur after antibiotics are discontinued. Dogs with food allergies sometimes have an increased incidence of bowel movements during the day.

To begin to diagnose a possible allergy to dog food, the owners put their dog on a food court. This involves starting a new diet for your dog and allows him to eat certain foods for 12 weeks. Proteins and carbohydrates are the two factors in the diet. Proteins can be obtained from rabbit or wild game, and you can incorporate potatoes for carbohydrates. Nothing else should be eaten by the dog during the trial of 12 weeks, including medicine flavored, Rawhide, or dog treats. It’s a good idea to monitor the animals, so it has not eaten without waste or residue. After 12 weeks, you can put her back on animals regular diet. If signs return after it is placed in its original power is a diagnosis of food allergy.

The best dog food for allergies involves making homemade meals that would be void of anything that could possibly trigger allergy symptoms. Start with a few ingredients, and gradually add more to determine exactly what he is allergic to. For example, add a meat that they have eaten in the past to their diet for 2 weeks. If no signs become apparent, the ingredient is safe and a new food can be added. If symptoms occur, you will know the exact things that your dog cannot eat.

If you are like me, you love your pet and want the very best for them. We provide them with wonderful homes, groom them well and feed them with what we think are the best dog food in the market today. Well, the home and grooming is great; but did you know that homemade food may be a better alternative to most of the goods you see on grocery aisles? That?s right; give the best by giving homemade pet food to your beloved pet.

One thing you have to remember with homemade dog food is that this is not derived from the leftover table scraps of your previous dinner. Some people think that the pieces left on the plates like seed, inedible stems and the like can be fed to the pet, but this is not so. Unless your meals comprise of healthy and low sodium sources, it is best to serve your dog a well made food plan you have prepared specially for him.

Remember to keep away from fare that is harmful to them. Some examples of these are chocolates, ham, lunch meat, cheese and overly spicy food. Not only will these cause problems in your dog?s digestive system; many times adverse reactions can even cause death. Incorporate healthy grains like rice, barley and oatmeal in his meals. Add bite size pieces of chicken, beef or any organ meat so long as you don?t over feed him on this. Make certain all food are cooked thoroughly.

Also incorporate fresh vegetables and fruits in the mix. Mash and finely shred the slices of vegetables you are putting in. Broccoli, carrots, seaweed, leafy vegetables and bananas are excellent ingredients to homemade pet food. The nutrients they will provide will make for a healthier dog. However, you may also add some specialty supplements to make certain your pet gets all the essential vitamins and minerals that he needs. Check with your vet before administering anything to him.

It is recommended that dog owners do not combine serving homemade and processed meals to their pets. This will oftentimes lead to indigestion. If you have always given him certain pre-packed food but want to try nourishing him with homemade fare, do so slowly. Start by feeding him small bites and light snacks of the healthy nosh in between his regular fare. If the dog seems to have no untoward physical reactions to it, introduce the new food plan gradually. Decrease the amount of regular dog food and increase the volume of fresh food being provided.

The great thing about this is that you do not have to prepare their food daily. In fact, take the healthy leftovers of the dinner the past week and you will have several days? worth of tasty dog meals you can supply your pet with. It is good to change it up frequently not only to keep him interested, but also to lower the risk of getting food allergy – a likelihood when the animal is given the same kinds of food too often.

Not only is serving homemade dog food more beneficial to your pet; it is more economical for you as well. The savings you incurred can be added to your doggie fund wherein you can dip into for treats and other enjoyable activities. If a satisfied and healthy pet is your goal?then start whipping out those yummy dog recipes and get going!

Ever heard of a perfect dog? You might possibly be the proud owner of one with the right tools of the trade?mainly mouth watering homemade dog treats. These simple and effective tips on how to make absolutely delicious dog treats will leave your canine no choice but to love you more and follow your every beck and call.

Let us begin by preparing simple chicken snacks. If you will be having chicken for dinner, set aside a portion to make for the dogs food. Bake or roast the lightly seasoned bird. Cut and dice the meat. Place these pieces on top of a cookie sheet and bake in 110?C temperature until you see it browning or becoming crisp. When done, cool the chicken bites for a few minutes before serving or repacking for future use.

Boil liver or beef heart in water and season with spices your dog seem to like. Let simmer for about 2 hours or until well cooked and slice them in chewable treats. You can place these in a plastic air tight bag and freeze them until needed. Make sure you completely thaw them out first before you feed it to the pup lest he gets indigestion and iced teeth.

If these are not available, hotdogs are acceptable and even appreciated doggie snacks. Cut the well cooked sausages or hot dogs in slivers and microwave them until they are hard. Have these on hand for ready noshes anytime of the day. Are you one of those owners who hold the treats between your teeth? Then savory, human friendly nibbles like these will be your best friend.

How about some sweet treats? Mix 2 Tbsp honey, 2 ? cups water, an egg and a dash of vanilla in a bowl. Add in a small jar of applesauce and blend all the ingredients well. In another bowl put in 4 cups of flour, 1 Tbsp baking powder and 1Tbsp nutmeg powder and combine all these together. Fold in the batter of the first bowl into the second bowl, thoroughly blending until it the whole mixture is perfectly incorporated into each other. Scoop out dollops of the prepared batter onto a grease lined tray and bake at 350? F for one hour. This delicious dessert is good for 12 servings?6 for Fido and 6 for you.

You can add or subtract ingredients but make sure to research first before you do. Certain food that we eat are hazardous to canines like chocolates, grapes and most nuts. These homemade dog treats are easy to make but always exercise special care and consult with the vet before any significant change in their diets are made.

You will know a happy and obedient dog by the loving owner who raised him up. By learning how to make dog treats, you show that you are willing to do more to provide the best for your dog – any canine will give his right paw for a master like you.

Dog food can get quite expensive, and as our dog grow the more money will be spent. That expense can double or triple depending on the number of pets we have.

Here’s an idea. Instead of feeding your canine those expensive formulated, with who knows what dog foods, you can make your own homemade dag food. If you have never done this before, don’t worry its really not difficult. Making your own dog food is easy and can be fun as well as rewarding.

You can find hundreds of dog food recipes online from many different sources depending on the particular needs for your dog. There are numerous websites that offer great tasting recipes to keep your dog satisfied for a very long time. Instead of listing them it would be much easier for you to do a simple search. From there you can start compiling recipes that are right for the particular needs of your dog.

By specifying words like puppy, vegetarian, diabetic or senior dog food recipes will produce better results. You can find such tempting concoctions as peanut butter puppy treats, dog style pretzels, brownies and donuts by using the right keyword phrase. In reading through some of these recipes you may be tempted on making them for yourself.

Preparing your dogs food yourself can be the best thing to keep your dog healthy. Doing this is not time consuming. What you get for a little extra time is a good recipe to keep your dog healthy.

Are you asking yourself why you should make additional work for yourself when it is so much easier to just buy it? Well, that’s a good question. First off, by making it yourself, you have absolute control over what you put into your dog’s body.

Next, it can also be cheaper to make it yourself. Even if you purchase your dog’s food in bulk, you can still save money by preparing his food at home.

Also, have you ever thought that your picky dog might even like the taste of your homemade dog food better than he does the expensive, store bought canned or bagged stuff? By using your own recipe, you can tweak it until your dog is just begging for more!

When preparing your dog food at home be careful to avoid salt and use lean meat. This way you will make healthier dog food and avoid the increase of thirst as salt tends to dehydrate your dog.

Choose lean ground meat like ground turkey which is both a cheaper alternative with lower saturated fat compared to lean red meat.

The amount you should prepare at any given time will depend on the size of your dog, how often he eats in a day and how often you would want to do the cooking. Any food not eaten should be refrigerated for up to 5 days only.

Finally, an important thing to remember when changing your dog’s diet is to do it gradually. Just add it into his usual commercially-prepared food little by little to avoid any digestion problems.

How can you ensure that the dog food you feed your pet is safe? The best way is to consider making homemade dog food. Do not worry about recalls on spoiled dog food. Instead, you can know exactly what goes into your dogs food by mixing foods on your own.

When you make homemade dog food for your pet, you will need to add meat, starchy foods and vegetable into the mix. The most basic meals have meat, rice and carrots or other vegetables. If your dog deserves a gourmet treat, use tasty meats and a variety of vegetables along with potatoes and rice. Just be certain that every meal contains starches, vegetables and a meat product.

Dogs love kidney and liver meats as well as turkey, chicken and beef. Rice, pasta, potatoes and other carbohydrates are the tastiest for your pooch. Carrots, celery and any number of vegetables will work well in the homemade dog good you make for your pet. Just do not forget to have starches, meat and veggies in every homemade dog food mix.

You will want to cook meat products before you mix them with other ingredients to make your homemade dog food. Many recipes call for you to mix all ingredients together and then cook or bake them for awhile. Think of it as making a casserole for supper, the only difference is this meal is for your pooch not your family.

Homemade dog food can be made by purchasing a book with recipes for homemade pet foods. You can also use the internet in order to locate an assortment of recipes so that you can prepare safe and healthy meals for your pet from home.

Your dog can gain many healthful benefits from homemade dog food. You can protect your dog from chemicals used to process dog food that is available in stores. In addition, you can help to avoid bacteria and other dangers that can find their way to dog food in stores. You should talk to your dogs veterinarian before you start to make their homemade dog food.

Make your dog your own version of gourmet dog good by preparing them homemade dog food. Reduce the risk of your dog eating dangerous bacteria or other substances that are sometimes found in dog food purchased in stores. Protect your pet from dangerous foods on the market, just as you protect your family from foods that have been recalled or are considered unsafe.

Dogs need to have meat, starch and vegetables for a healthy diet. You can easily create your own blend of these foods from home. Homemade dog food can be as simple as mixing beef, rice and carrots. Dogs also love to eat ground turkey. The important thing is to ensure that your homemade dog food has all three key ingredients for your dog.

Eggs and other dairy foods should also be added to your dogs food. Rice, potatoes and even pasta can be used to provide your dog with the necessary starches for their diet. Beef and ground turkey are most commonly used in recipes for homemade dog food. Liver and kidney meats provide many nutrients for your pet, not to mention a taste they will enjoy.

Lean meat is best for your dog especially if they are overweight. You do not want to use fatty meats. Dietary needs might be a little different if your dog is still a puppy. In that case, you will want to talk to their veterinarian so that you know exactly which type of meats you should use in their dog food along with any other dietary needs specific to young dogs.

You can grind the meat you will use in a meat grinder if it is not already ground meat. If your dog does not like any meat chunks, you will want to process the meat. You can make large quantities, but it is important to remember that once food is cooked and prepared for your dog it should be eaten within three days.
