Doggie Tricks of the Trade

Most animal lovers can attest to a dog’s happy and faithful nature that people just love. Despite this, many are reluctant in keeping a dog because training them is hard work. The good news is it doesn’t have to be. Here are some easy tips that will help you have that fun and rewarding pet-owner relationship you’ve always wanted.

First thing you have to remember is that you have to establish your authority with the dog. He is after all an animal and will instinctively follow you better once he realizes this. Set ground rules that will allow him to acknowledge you as his superior. During meal times, let him watch you eat first then feed him afterwards. When you are crossing the room and he is blocking your path, dont go around him; instead push him gently out of your way. You are the leader of the pack and this is how it goes in the animal world. The earlier he learns you are his boss, the easier to teach him later on.

Dogs can read emotions, especially when you are near them. Be strong and authoritative when you train them. But keep in mind that it is with positive reinforcement that dogs respond well to. Lavish him with accolades. when he obeys a command perfectly. Have doggie treats on hand to give him when he does well. Of course when he makes a mistake you have to correct him at the time it happens and not after. Training should go for around ten to fifteen minutes a few times a day.

You will find that all dogs have consistent behavioral patterns that are a reliable index to their state of mind, so to speak. Happy dogs have wagging tails, a joyful bark and an open expression. Angry dogs will bare their teeth, snarl and tense up, ready to attack. Recognizing particular signs and correctly responding to it will help you in training him successfully.

You will need patience in training your dogs tricks. Dogs are best taught at around six weeks of age but if he’s been around the proverbial block a few times, there is still hope. Remember, you need to be cool and collected even when he messes up, especially in the beginning. Your patient guidance will see him progress sooner or later. Be consistent in your teaching patterns and training schedules. Confused dogs will forget what you want them to learn.

Train your dogs in a place with no distractions. A playful butterfly or whizzing car will distract him from your lessons. You will find it difficult to get his attention then. A peaceful backyard or any indoor area will be satisfactory.

Most importantly, remember why you got your pet in the first place. Have fun! Training can be tedious and when that happens, just take a break to play and have a romp around the backyard with him. Dogs are special because they have a special ability to take your mind off pressing details and lavish you with love however bad you look or smell. The best dogs are not only those that are trained but those that make for a faithful and constant friend.

Become a Pet Owner and Stay Happier

Do you envy people who walk around as if they’re so light-footed? In your workplace, do you meet individuals radiating with a positive aura that makes you curious as to the reason behind it? Conversely, if you are in a children’s park, do you experience a tinge of envy when you see beaming people? Actually, you don’t need to be a genius to know why they are in a blissful state. More often than not, their happy nature is due to their pet.

Whether you believe it or not, having a pet is something extraordinary. This statement is more apt today with the continuing financial turmoil that every person is undergoing today. The bad write ups are always on the front page of local dailies and it’s quite easy to succumb to the gloom. However, to those who have something to keep them away from the pessimism in this world, especially those who have pets, they have managed to feel wonderful and filled with hope.

It has been proven by numerous studies that pets are therapeutic creatures to be with. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that many hospitals are utilizing this technique.

The next few paragraphs will enumerate the reasons why a pet can make you happy. Read this interesting and comprehensive article to know the details.

First of all, a pet can make his owner feel loved and appreciated. They are loyal, showy with their affection and do not demand much. They do not complain incessantly with what you have to offer. They are content that you feed them, groom them, give them attention whenever you can and bring them to the veterinarian’s clinic when they are not well. At times, they are better than their human counterparts because they do not act clingy. This means that one need not worry about annoying phone calls in the office while in the middle of an important negotiation, nagging messages or hysterical moments.

Second, pets can amplify your sense of self-esteem. You may ask how this is possible. Well, since you are the sole person responsible for their well-being, you feel like you have a purpose in life. Having a purpose in life can boost your ego, thereby increasing your self-esteem a few notches higher. This wonderful transformation will be seen by the people surrounding you. In the workplace, your boss and officemates will comment about your unique disposition. Your parents, siblings and friends will also feel that you have changed for the better, albeit in a subtle manner. Your face will glow with happiness that is a mere reflection of how elated you feel inside.

Third, a pet can help you lure new friends and acquaintances. This is true especially if you are seen around town with a pet in tow. People are quite shameless when they see individuals carrying a cat, dog, bird, hamster or squirrel. They ask plenty of questions and are curious about a lot of stuff regarding your pet.

Are you excited to have a pet that can make you happy? Get one now at the nearest animal store.

Being a pet owner is great. But you must notice two things that you need to know about. One is quality pet health insurance because unless you have it your pet is not safe. The next key thing is that using cheap pet meds will damage your pet terminally if you find the wrong quality of medication.

Labrador Retrievers Are Wonderful For Families

Originally a hard working gun dog used to spending its days hunting the Labrador retriever has an altogether different image today. Now, Labs are considered to be ideal family pets and if you want the perfect picture of doggie cuteness than a Labrador puppy will fit the bill. Labs are loyal and faithful companions for their owners.

Very popular with dog owners around the world the Labrador retriever is a perennial favourite with all age groups. Their cute looks and playful nature make them great companions for the young and the old and they are often trusted with jobs such as police and emergency rescue work.

The Labs friendly nature and desire to please their human masters makes them ideal assistance dogs for the disabled or the deaf and they often used as therapeutic aids for people suffering from all manner of both physical and mental ailments.

Labrador retrievers typically love water and they are incredibly strong swimmers. Their coat and otter like tail make them feel right at home in the water and they like nothing more than splashing around in ponds, rivers or in the sea.

And, as their name suggests, Labradors are excellent retrievers and one of their surprisingly pleasant attributes is the fact that they have extremely soft mouths. Apparently, a Lab is able to carry an egg in its mouth without breaking it though I have to say if my Labs got an egg in their mouth they would simply eat it. They have capricious appetites!

Though they were bred as hunting dogs Labs do not have the inherent aggressiveness and poor temperaments of some other breeds and have very few, if any, negative traits in their nature.

Children really enjoy being with Labrador retrievers and will be able to spend many hours every day playing games with the Lab enjoying the play as much as the child. Labs enjoy chasing and of course retrieving and will happily chase a thrown ball until the owner, or child, is exhausted. Labs love companionship and will always enjoy being around human beings.

As a general rule Labs are very easy to train as they are highly intelligent and adaptable. But they can also be stubborn and more than a little mischievous ” which I suppose makes them all the more lovable!

Labs are also very curious creatures and they will happily investigate any new surroundings with great glee. If something attracts their attention, particularly the scent of food, they will determinedly seek it out. Similarly they will happily trot after a person they havent met before simply to check them out.

Because of these attributes, they sometimes can be easily go missing or be lured away from their owner. Because of this it is highly recommended that Labs be micro chipped as well as having the name, address and phone number of their owner on their collar.

Labs are basically a healthy breed, though they are highly prone to becoming overweight as they have a tremendous talent for begging or finding food. But, like all dog breeds, Labs are susceptible to certain conditions and they can be prone to hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis and other joint problems as well as suffering from diabetes.

Thankfully, most Labs will not encounter any health problems and will prove to be the perfect companion for all members of the family from the youngest to the eldest.

Looking for the best guide to Labrador Retreivers – look no further than the Labrador Retriever Guide an independent resource for all Labrador owners with a complete history of the Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever Breeding

Anything thinking of breeding their Labrador Retriever should give the matter a lot of thought as there are many things to consider before undertaking such a project. Why do people want to breed their Labs? There are two main reasons why they want to do this. Many people look forward to producing a litter for themselves and families, while others see it as a commercial opportunity to make money selling Labrador pups.

No matter what the reasons are for wanting to breed Lab Retrievers, you must understand that not all the litters likely to be produced will be healthy and happy. If you are a first time breeder who owns a female dog, the pregnancy will be a time of joy, or dreadful disaster. To ensure a successful experience for you and your Lab, it is vital you bring together the best pairing of dogs possible. The pair need to have a good temperament, be in top physical shape as well as disease free. It is also vital you check each dog’s lineage to eradicate the prospect of inherited problems and disease such as hip dysplasia.

The temperament of the breeding pair is just as important as their health. Labradors inevitably end up in a family home so it is essential that they are temperamentally suited to sharing a home with children as well as adults.

The pedigrees of the breeding pair should be carefully checked to ensure they are not too closely related. That is essential to avoid the danger of inbreeding. If inbreeding does occur, it can damage the health of the offspring, lead to poor temperament as well weaken the bloodline.

Before mating it is advisable to let the dogs get to know each other and, ideally, each dog should be over two years-of-age. By this time any temperamental or health issues should be apparent. Breeding Labrador Retrievers is not a decision to rush into but it should be remembered that finding the right pair of dogs is only the beginning of the process. Once the mating has taken place and pregnancy is confirmed the real work begins.

Looking after the Lab bitch during pregnancy and the whelping process can take a lot of hard work. Once she has given birth, care of the puppies and finding good homes for them can be a time-consuming and expensive business.

On a final point, you should not underestimate the importance of finding good owners for the pups. You will not let them go to just anyone So if you are unsure that potential owners can offer the pups a caring and loving environment, be prepared to turn them down.

The Labrador Retriever Guide is the complete online resource about Labrador Retreivers with articles, information and hints for all owners of Labs including training tips, food … nutrition and all aspects of Labrador Retreiver health

How to Find the Perfect Pet Dog

If you grew up without having the chance to own a pet dog because your strict parents won’t allow you to mingle with these supposedly filthy and hyperactive animals, then you know that your life is not the same as kids who had their favorite pup grow up with them. Now, if you don’t want the same thing happening to your children, get them a pet dog that will be their best friend for life.

There are so many considerations to choose from when deciding to get a pet. You have to put into perspective the other occupants of the household, if there are any, the size of your house and yard, the breed of the dog and the possible maintenance cost.

This article will explain the reasons for each consideration. Read on so that you will be guided accordingly in your search for the ultimate dog.

If you are the sole occupant in your house, then no problem would crop up regarding this particular situation. Unfortunately, if you are already committed to somebody else and is currently living with that person, you must listen to his or her opinion. You must also heed your kids’ voice if they have something to say. Be open to compromise and collaborate. All of you will be living with a new occupant. It is imperative that everybody knows what is expected of them.

Second, the size of your house and yard must be assessed. If you have a small place, a small dog should be your pet. They do not require a humongous place to play around in. If you provide them with a small dog house, they won’t complain. This is not the case for guard dogs. They want a huge area where they can run and play to their heart’s content. If they can’t stretch their lean limbs and torso every single day, they will feel bad and get depressed. This would cause mayhem because they may throw temper tantrums. You don’t want this to happen, right? Therefore, be wise enough to know what is good for your dog.

Third, the breed should be another important detail that requires a thorough planning. The needs of each breed vary. Therefore, try to match one that has a temperament close to yours. Cute dogs like a Japanese Spitz, a poodle, a Yorkshire terrier and a pug are very playful. They need someone with an enthusiastic attitude so that they will have a great time fooling around. On the other hand, a German shepherd, Pit-bull and Rottweiler need to have a strong and commanding owner because they grow up to be big dogs with fierce attitude. In order to control them, they should be trained early on to spot the enemy from friends. If you can’t even learn how to take control even if they are still in their early years, your dog will sense it and will not respect or obey you.

Fourth, if you are low on budget, get a dog that doesn’t require much maintenance. If you can avoid hairy animals that need weekly grooming, do so. Also stay away from dogs that need thermally-regulated surroundings like Siberian huskies because they will jack up your electricity bills with their air conditioning needs. Stick to wash and wear dogs so that all you have to worry about is their food, regular shampoo and conditioning needs and the bill from the vet in times of sickness.

Be patient in choosing the dog of your choice. They will be with you for a long time so it makes sense to get the best one.

Cat Urine Smell In Your Carpet? There IS An Easy Answer!

Cat urine. One of the less appealing odors one can ever have in the house… And trying to get cat urine out of carpet is for some people in the same category as having a root canal.Yes, it is distressing and it is easy to get angry with the cat. Who wants a smelly house?

Cat urine can be a challenge to remove, the key is to use the proper cleaners. When the urine is allowed to dry into the rug it forms strong chemical bonds with the material of the carpet.

Not only do amino acids bind with the carpet, so do salts. Salts cause a bond with an ionic charge that is increasingly difficult to dissolve the longer the urine has been on the carpet. Steam cleaning, or home made cleaners will not dissolve these strong bonds, actually steam cleaning the carpet may make the problem worse.

Some cleaners available do nothing more than mask the smell. Other cleaners use chemical agents that attempt to absorb the smell.

This may help for the moment, but does not completely remove the urine, making the smell return eventually. With some urine left on the carpet, your cat will be more likely to urinate on the same spot again.

So, you got cat pee on your rug? What is the first thing you should do?

1. Blot or mop up as much urine as possible. Lay down absorbent towels and walk on them. Care should be taken if water is added to the spot -it can easily spread and make clean-up more difficult.

2. Use a cleaner that can be injected into the padding underneath the spot. Inject to cover about half a foot in diameter. Spray the surface of the rug liberally.

3. You are done! That is all that needs to be done when you use the proper tools. Prevent your cat from accessing the spot for a few days until it is completely dry.

It can be easy to get angry with the cat for not using the box. But try to control yourself and don’t scold or get angry at your cat.

When a cat eliminates outside the litter box it is a sign that something is amiss. Frequently a medical issue such as a urinary tract infection is the cause which would need medical attention. The cause needs to be discovered and corrected to ensure future success.

Finding and eliminating the cause of the behavior while cleaning the urine with the proper cleaner will assure that you will have a sweet smelling home, and a cat that goes in the box.
