I was amused to find out that nearly one in every three folks spell the word German Shepherd incorrectly, spelling them German Shepards rather. I’m amazed that this word is so regularly misspelled, & I am even further stunned to know that I spelled it this way for so scores of years.

I loathe spelling words wrong and I always attempt to avert it. I am always careful to make certain that I am precise with my spelling, although like every person, sometimes I simply mess up. The good news is that I have an easy way to keep in mind how to properly spell this breed of dog correctly.

Follow my basic procedure here and you certainly will consistently recall that it’s not German Shepards, but shepherds.

Think back to why this breed of canine was created & perhaps you’ll already figure this out. The German Shepherd was created as a working canine, and it was only in the late 1890s that this dog came to existence.

Individuals in Germany desired a canine to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd and sheep now, and then reverse them. You do not think of the German Shepards (I am kidding) now as sheep herding canines, as they’re ordinarily used by police to fight crime, in airports to find drugs, & in other settings that rely on the dog’s great olfactory senses.

This, however, is why they were bred, and remembering this should make it much easier to write the word correctly.

As long as you try to keep this in mind any time you write or type out the word, I suppose you most certainly will get it accurately from here. Don’t feel too badly regarding it since 1 in 3 individuals do write it wrong.
