Presidential Pets
With the Presidential mantle now official, Doga enthusiasts can’t help but wonder; as a dog lover, will Barack Obama opt to use Dog Yoga as a way to keep off the presidential freshman 15? As of yet, President Obama has not made any official statement as to whether or not Doga will become a common part of his routine in the same fashion morning jogs became a part of the last Democrat to fill the seat’s routine. But seeing how it is Barack is known to have a fondness for dogs, perhaps catching him and his dog in the “downward dog” pose is not too unlikely!
Because President Barack Obama has been pictured with a dog or two and stated during his acceptance speech that the Obamas will be bringing a dog to 1600 Pennsilvania Ave, perhaps it is not totally farfetched to believe President Oabama may enjoy some Doga exercises between performing his Presidential duties!
The White House has certainly seen it’s fair share of news worthy pets in the past few administrations. The American people are quite familiar with the appropriately named “Socks” the cat that wandered the halls during the Clinton years. The Bush’s brought along their pets too. The original President Bush introduced Millie to the White House and his son President George W. Bush enjoyed the company of Barney. Who will Barack introduce to the sacred halls? Will they enjoy Doga together?
After wining the Presidential election, Barack Obama took a moment to address his daughters while also addressing the nation, he said; “You have earned that puppy that is coming with us” His 10 year old daughter Malia has expressed interest in making a “Goldendoodle” their family pet, a hybrid of a golden retriever and traditional poodle.
Barney, Millie and Socks are certainly not the only pets to wander the sacred halls of the White House during their owner’s presidential tenure. Many U.S. Presidents have brought along their pets and not all have been the traditional dog or cat! Rutherford B. Hayes enjoyed a pet cow while President, as did William Henry. Theodore Roosevelt called many animals his pets while President, including five bears! While Doga is great for dogs, it is not intended for use with bears, sorry Teddy!
James Buchanan called an elephant his pet during his Presidential tenure! Good thing Malia, President Obama’s daughter did not hear about a pet elephant in the White House, a puppy may lose some of its appeal when compared to an elephant!
Few U.S. Presidents have expressed enthusiasm for Doga or even traditional Yoga, but perhaps they should! Performing Yoga exercises on a daily basis has shown to greatly reduce stress. Moreover, studies have shown that interaction with dogs can also reduce stress. Whether you are a President, carpenter, teacher, doctor or anything else, Doga can be incredibly useful in reducing stress!
Amy Stevens’ Yoga4Dogs DVD is the perfect way to welcome your canine friend into a fun, exciting and stress relieving workout routine. Doga is great for big dogs, small dogs and every kind of person. Presidents, bakers, lawyers, carpenters.anyone!
