They grow up to 26 inches at the withers at adulthood and can be up to 88 pounds in weight. Ideally the maximum height should be 25 inches according to the standards set by the UK Kennel Club.

Aside from those, Black German Shepherd puppies also tend to have powerful jaws, scissor-like bite, domed forehead and square-cut muzzle. Behavior-wise, they are confident and intelligent which is apparent on their ears that are always perked up.

Coat color varieties comprises pure black, red black, and tan black where the last two as the most common coats. Those of black colors are also black in masks and body. Saddle style and the blanket color are the frequent body markings.
